1. Introduction

The Zoom M3 MicTrak is a high-performance stereo on-camera shotgun microphone designed for filmmakers and content creators. It features advanced 32-bit float recording technology, eliminating the need for manual gain adjustments and preventing audio clipping. With versatile stereo modes (90°, 120°, and MONO), a built-in recorder, and USB microphone compatibility, the M3 MicTrak offers exceptional audio quality and flexibility for various recording environments.

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

The M3 MicTrak operates on two AA batteries. Open the battery compartment, insert the batteries according to the polarity markings, and close the compartment securely.

3.2 Mounting the Microphone

Attach the custom Zoom shockmount to your camera's hot shoe or a compatible tripod/stand using the integrated screw mount. Secure the M3 MicTrak into the shockmount.

3.3 Connecting to a Camera or Device

For camera connection, use the provided 3.5mm TRS audio cable. For smartphones, tablets, or computers, use the appropriate USB-C cable. The device will automatically recognize the connection type.

3.4 Inserting an SD Card

For internal recording, insert a microSD card (up to 32GB) into the designated slot on the microphone. Ensure the card is formatted correctly (exFAT recommended).

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

Press and hold the power button located on the microphone to turn the device on or off. The display will illuminate upon power-on.

4.2 32-Bit Float Recording

The M3 MicTrak's 32-bit float recording capability allows for clip-free audio capture without the need for manual gain setting. This technology ensures that even very loud sounds are recorded without distortion, providing maximum dynamic range for post-production.

4.3 Gain Control

While 32-bit float recording minimizes the need for precise gain setting, a manual gain control knob (0-10) is available on the microphone for fine-tuning the input level if desired. The current gain level is displayed on the screen.

4.4 Monitoring Audio

Connect headphones to the 3.5mm headphone output jack on the microphone or receiver to monitor your audio in real-time. This allows you to ensure proper sound capture during recording.

The M3 MicTrak features wireless connectivity, allowing control via the Comica Audio app. The app provides comprehensive control over settings such as gain, mode, denoise function, low cut, frequency boost, mute, and bit depth (32-bit float or 24-bit). The wireless range is up to 200 meters line of sight.
