4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your OTTOCAST PICASOU 2 AI Box.

4.1 Compatibility Requirements

The PICASOU 2 wireless Android Auto adapter is compatible ONLY with cars that have factory wired CarPlay (Model year: 2016-2023). It is suitable for iPhone with iOS 10 and above, and Android phones with Android 11 and above.

Known compatible car brands include Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Toyota, Honda, Jeep, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volvo, Volkswagen, Lexus, Hyundai, Peugeot, Mazda, Land Rover, and more.

4.2 Initial Connection

  1. Ensure your vehicle's engine is running or the ignition is in accessory mode.
  2. Locate your car's factory wired CarPlay USB port. This is typically the port you would use to connect your iPhone for CarPlay.
  3. Connect the OTTOCAST PICASOU 2 AI Box to the car's USB port using the provided USB cable (Type-A to Type-C or Type-C to Type-C, depending on your car's port).
  4. The device's LED light will illuminate, and the car's screen should switch to the OTTOCAST interface. This may take a few moments.
  5. If prompted, allow necessary permissions on your car's infotainment system.

4.3 Network Setup (Optional)

The PICASOU 2 supports internet connectivity via a 4G SIM card or Wi-Fi hotspot.

  • Using a SIM Card:
    1. Insert a Nano SIM card into the designated SIM card slot on the device (refer to Figure 3.2). Ensure the SIM card is inserted correctly with the gold contacts facing down.
    2. The device will automatically detect the SIM card and attempt to connect to the 4G network.
  • Using Wi-Fi Hotspot:
    1. On the OTTOCAST interface, navigate to the Wi-Fi settings.
    2. Select your phone's personal hotspot or another available Wi-Fi network and enter the password to connect.

Note: Only one internet connection method (SIM or Wi-Fi) can be active at a time. If a SIM card is inserted, it will prioritize the 4G network.

5.1 Navigating the OttoDrive 1.0 UI

5.2 Wireless Android Auto and CarPlay

The PICASOU 2 allows you to use Wireless Android Auto or Wireless CarPlay.

  1. Ensure your phone's Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled.
  2. On the OTTOCAST interface, select the "Wireless CarPlay" or "Wireless Android Auto" icon.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to pair your phone via Bluetooth. Once paired, the system will automatically connect via Wi-Fi for the full wireless experience.

5.3 Installing and Using Applications

The PICASOU 2 allows you to install any apps you like, turning your car into a personal moving movie theater or game room.

  • Access the Google Play Store from the main interface to download and install apps such as YouTube, Netflix, Waze, Spotify, etc.
  • Ensure you have an active internet connection (via SIM or Wi-Fi) to download apps.
  • Some pre-installed apps may require updates. Check for updates regularly within the app or through the system settings.

5.4 HDMI Output Functionality

The PICASOU 2 features a 1080P HDMI output, allowing you to display content on external screens.

  • Connect an HDMI cable from the PICASOU 2's HDMI output port to an external display (e.g., rear seat monitor, smart TV, computer monitor).

5.5 Expandable Memory and Customization

7. Troubleshooting

  • Update the app to its latest version from the Google Play Store.
  • Some apps may have regional restrictions or specific device compatibility requirements.
  • If an app is pre-installed and cannot be updated via Play Store, a factory reset of the OTTOCAST device might be necessary, followed by reinstallation if possible.
GPS signal issues or inaccurate navigation.
  • Ensure the device has a clear view of the sky (if applicable, though built-in GPS should generally work).
  • Check GPS settings within the device; some systems allow switching between internal GPS and car's GPS. Try both options.
  • Verify that location services are enabled for navigation apps.
Device reboots constantly or freezes.
  • Ensure the device is not overheating.

Cannot connect Bluetooth devices (other than phones).

7.1 Factory Reset

A factory reset will erase all user data and settings, restoring the device to its original state. This can be useful for resolving persistent software issues.

  1. Navigate to the system settings on the OTTOCAST interface.
  2. Look for "Backup & Reset" or "System Reset" options.
  3. Select "Factory data reset" and confirm your choice.
  4. The device will restart and go through the initial setup process.

Note: After a factory reset, you may see a "Device not activated" message. This typically resolves itself after completing the initial setup and connecting to the internet.
