5. Installation

The SUPERFLO Upflush Macerating Toilet System is designed for convenient installation without the need for a pit, offering flexibility for adding a bathroom where needed.

5.1 General Installation Considerations

  • Ensure the installation area is level and provides sufficient space for the unit and connections.
  • Only two pipelines are typically needed: an inlet from the toilet and a discharge pipe.
  • The unit accepts wastewater by gravity. All inlet pipework must have a positive gravity fall (minimum 1/4" per foot) to allow free drainage when the pump stops.
  • The pipe connecting to the sewage outlet needs to be extended and lifted above the main sewage pipe to prevent backflow.
  • For the outlet pipeline, it is recommended to go vertically first and then horizontally. Avoid using right-angle elbows if possible to ensure smooth flow.

5.2 Connecting Additional Fixtures

The macerator pump features multiple inlets for connecting other wastewater sources:

  • Connect drain lines from a kitchen sink, bathroom sink, bathtub, or washing machine to the smaller side inlets of the macerator pump.
  • Ensure all connections are sealed properly to prevent leaks.

6. Operation

The SUPERFLO Upflush Macerating Toilet System operates automatically. When the toilet is flushed or wastewater enters the macerator pump from connected fixtures, the system activates.

6.1 Flushing the Toilet

  • Press the appropriate flush button on the toilet tank: 0.8 GPF for liquid waste or 1.6 GPF for solid waste.
  • The macerator pump will activate, grind the waste, and pump it through the discharge pipe.
  • After the discharge process, the macerator will return to standby mode.

6.2 Using Connected Fixtures

When water drains from a connected sink, bathtub, or washing machine into the macerator pump, the pump will automatically activate to process and discharge the wastewater.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your SUPERFLO system.

7.1 General Cleaning

  • Clean the toilet bowl and exterior surfaces with standard non-abrasive bathroom cleaners.
  • Avoid pouring harsh chemicals directly into the toilet or connected drains, as this can damage the macerator pump components.

7.2 Odor Control

The system includes an activated charcoal filter for odor control. If odors persist, ensure the filter is clean and consider connecting the unit to your home's ventilation system if not already done.

7.3 Preventing Blockages

To prevent blockages and damage to the macerator blades:

  • Do not flush objects such as key chains, sanitary napkins, plastic bags, blades, or excessive amounts of toilet paper.
  • Only human waste and toilet paper should be flushed.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SUPERFLO system, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

8.1 Pump Not Activating or Running Continuously

  • Check power supply: Ensure the unit is plugged in and the circuit breaker has not tripped.
  • Inspect for blockages: Foreign objects can prevent the macerator from operating or cause it to run continuously. Disconnect power before inspecting.
  • Water level sensor: A faulty sensor might cause continuous running. Contact customer support if suspected.

8.2 Weak Flushing or Slow Drainage

  • Check water supply to the toilet tank.
  • Inspect discharge pipe for partial blockages or incorrect slope.
  • Ensure all inlet connections have a proper gravity fall.

8.3 Odor Issues

  • Verify the activated charcoal filter is clean and properly installed.
  • Ensure all connections are airtight.
  • Consider connecting to a home ventilation system if not already done.
