The Kwikset 9260TRL-L03S is a traditional style electronic deadbolt featuring a keypad for keyless entry and SmartKey Security for re-keying the lock yourself in seconds. It operates on 4 AA batteries (not included) and provides a secure, convenient access solution for your home.

Setup and Installation

Installation of the Kwikset SmartCode deadbolt is designed to be straightforward, typically requiring only a Philips head screwdriver. Ensure your door preparation meets the standard specifications for deadbolt installation before proceeding.

1. Prepare the Door

2. Install Latch and Strike Plate

3. Install Exterior Keypad Assembly

4. Install Interior Assembly

5. Install Batteries

The lock requires 4 AA alkaline batteries (not included). Open the battery cover on the interior assembly and insert the batteries, observing polarity (+/-). Close the cover securely.

6. Door Handing Process

This step is crucial for the lock to learn the orientation of your door. After battery installation, the lock will automatically perform a handing process. If it doesn't, press the "Lock" button on the keypad. The latch bolt should extend and retract to determine door handing.

  2. Press the Program button on the interior assembly once.
  3. Enter a new 4-8 digit user code on the keypad.
  4. Press the Lock button once.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

When the batteries are low, the lock will emit a series of beeps and the keypad will flash red when attempting to lock or unlock. Replace all four AA alkaline batteries promptly to ensure continued operation.

  1. Remove the battery cover on the interior assembly.
  2. Remove old batteries and dispose of them properly.
  3. Insert four new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Replace the battery cover.

Note: After replacing batteries, it is good practice to test the lock's functionality with a user code and the physical key.

Cleaning

To clean the lock, use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish and electronic components.

SmartKey Re-keying

The SmartKey Security feature allows you to re-key your lock to any other Kwikset key. This is useful if you want to match your new deadbolt to existing Kwikset locks in your home.

  1. Insert your functioning key into the cylinder and turn it 90 degrees clockwise to the horizontal position.
  2. Insert the SmartKey tool fully and firmly into the SmartKey hole.
  3. Remove the SmartKey tool and then remove your functioning key.
  4. Insert your new Kwikset key fully and slowly turn it 180 degrees counter-clockwise.
  5. Remove the new key. The lock is now re-keyed.

Important: Always test the new key multiple times before closing the door.
