Operating Instructions (How to Play)

CROSSNET combines the classic game of four square with volleyball rules. The objective is to eliminate opponents by having the ball land in their square.

1. Player Positioning: Four players occupy each of the four squares. Squares are typically numbered 1 through 4.
2. Serving: The player in Square 4 serves the ball diagonally to the player in Square 2. The serve must be an underhand or overhand volleyball serve.
3. Gameplay: After the serve, players must hit the ball to an opponent's square. The ball must be hit over the net and land within the boundaries of an opponent's square. Players can use bumps, sets, or spikes.
4. Elimination: A player is eliminated (or rotates to Square 1 if playing with more than 4 people) if:
   • The ball lands out of bounds.
   • The ball hits the ground in their own square.
   • They hit the ball into the net.
   • They hit the ball more than once consecutively.
   • The ball is hit more than three times by a team before going over the net (if playing doubles within a square).
5. Scoring: Points are typically scored by the player in Square 4 when an opponent is eliminated. The game is usually played to 11 points, winning by 2.
6. Rotation: When a player is eliminated, all players rotate clockwise to fill the empty squares, and the eliminated player joins the back of the line to enter Square 1.
