Setup
1. Battery Installation and Charging
The PX652 radios come with Lithium Ion batteries included. Before first use, fully charge the radios.
- Connect the wall adapter to the 2-way dock charger.
- Plug the wall adapter into a standard electrical outlet.
- Place the PX652 radios into the charging slots on the dock charger. Ensure they are seated correctly.
- The charging indicator light on the charger will illuminate, typically red when charging and green when fully charged.
- Allow approximately 3-4 hours for a full charge. The radios offer an ultra-long runtime of up to 18 hours (90% Standby / 5% Talk / 5% Listen) on a full charge.
2. Attaching the Belt Clip
Align the belt clip with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it down until it clicks into place. The swivel holster design allows for rotation in multiple positions for optimal comfort.
3. Connecting the Surveillance Headset
Plug the headset connector into the audio jack on the side of the radio. Ensure it is firmly inserted for proper operation. The headset includes Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Voice Operated Switch (VOX) buttons for hands-free communication.
Operating Instructions
1. Powering On/Off and Volume Control
Rotate the power/volume knob clockwise to turn the radio on and increase volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and turn the radio off.
2. Channel Selection
The PX652 features 22 channels. Use the Channel Up/Down buttons (usually marked with arrows) to select your desired channel. Ensure all radios you wish to communicate with are on the same channel.
3. Privacy Codes (CTCSS/DCS)
To secure your conversations and reduce interference, the PX652 offers 121 privacy codes. These codes filter out unwanted transmissions from other radios not using the same code on the same channel. Refer to your radio's display and function buttons to set a privacy code. Both radios must have the same channel and privacy code to communicate.
4. Transmitting and Receiving
- To transmit, press and hold the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button located on the side of the radio (or on the headset). Speak clearly into the microphone.
- Release the PTT button to receive.
5. Voice-Activated Transmission (VOX)
The VOX feature allows for hands-free operation. When activated, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice. This is particularly useful in situations where your hands are occupied.
- To activate VOX, consult your radio's function menu or dedicated VOX button.
- Adjust the VOX sensitivity level to prevent accidental transmissions from background noise.
6. Channel Scan
The channel scan feature allows you to scan all 22 channels for activity. This helps you find active conversations or an open channel for communication.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Cobra PX652 radios.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior of the radio. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the radios in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid extreme temperatures.
- Battery Care: For long-term storage, it is recommended to charge the batteries to about 50% capacity. Avoid fully discharging the batteries frequently, as this can reduce their lifespan.
- Water Resistance: The PX652 is IP54 rated, meaning it is dust protected and splashproof from any direction. It cannot withstand water immersion. If the radio gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.
