5. Setup

5.1 System Requirements

The MOOER Steep I is compatible with Windows 10 and above. It also works with Mac computers (Mini, Macbook Air) and various DAWs like ProTools, Logic Pro, and Garageband.

5.2 Connecting to Your Computer

  1. Connect the provided USB-C to USB-A cable from the USB 2.0 port on the Steep I to an available USB port on your computer.
  2. If your computer cannot provide sufficient power, connect an external USB power adapter (not included) to the POWER USB-C port on the Steep I.
  3. The Power LED on the front panel will illuminate when the device is powered on.

5.3 Driver Installation

For Windows users, it is recommended to download and install the latest ASIO drivers from the official MOOER website for optimal performance and low latency. Mac users typically do not require additional driver installation as the device is class-compliant.

5.4 Connecting Inputs

  • Channel 1 (INST/LINE): Connect your guitar, bass, or other line-level instrument using a 1/4" TS/TRS cable.
  • Channel 2 (MIC/LINE/INST): Connect a microphone using an XLR cable, or an instrument/line-level device using a 1/4" TS/TRS cable.

5.5 Connecting Outputs

  • Main Outputs: Connect your studio monitors to the MAIN OUT L and R 1/4" TRS jacks using appropriate cables.
  • Headphones: Connect your headphones to the PHONES 1/4" TRS jack.

6. Operation

6.1 Power On/Off

The Steep I powers on automatically when connected to a computer via USB or when an external power supply is connected to the POWER port. There is no dedicated power switch.

6.2 Adjusting Input Gain

Rotate the Input Gain Knobs (1 & 2) clockwise to increase the input level for your connected microphone or instrument. Observe the LED input level indicators to ensure your signal is strong but not clipping (peaking into the red).

6.3 Activating 48V Phantom Power

If you are using a condenser microphone with the MIC/LINE/INST (Channel 2) input, press the 48V button to supply +48V phantom power. Ensure your microphone requires phantom power before activating this feature. Dynamic microphones do not require phantom power.

6.4 Direct Monitoring

Press the S.DRCT button to enable direct monitoring. This allows you to hear your input signal directly through your headphones or main outputs with zero latency, which is crucial for recording. Use the Mix knob to balance the direct input signal with the playback from your computer (e.g., backing tracks).

6.5 Headphone Monitoring

Adjust the headphone listening level using the VOLUME knob located next to the PHONES jack.

6.6 Main Output Level

Control the overall playback volume to your studio monitors using the Main Out knob.

6.7 Software Integration (DAWs)

Once connected and drivers are installed (if necessary), select the MOOER Steep I as your audio input and output device within your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software (e.g., Ableton Live, FL Studio, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Garageband). Refer to your DAW's manual for specific instructions on audio device selection.
