1. Important Safety Information

  • Secure Grip: Always maintain a firm grip on the chainsaw with one hand.
  • Avoid Accidental Starting: Ensure the safety switch is engaged when not actively cutting.
  • Proper Body Positioning: Keep your body balanced and avoid overreaching.
  • Kickback Prevention: Be aware of potential kickback. Avoid cutting with the tip of the guide bar.

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Charging and Installation

Before first use, fully charge the 4.0Ah Lithium-Ion battery using the provided fast charger. A full charge takes approximately 2 hours.

  • Connect the charger to a power outlet.
  • Insert the battery into the charger. The indicator lights on the battery will show charging progress.
  • Once fully charged, remove the battery from the charger.
  • To install the battery, align it with the battery slot on the bottom of the chainsaw handle and slide it in until it clicks securely into place.

3.2 Chain and Guide Bar Installation

The chainsaw comes with the chain and guide bar uninstalled for safety and packaging. Follow these steps for proper installation:

  • Unscrew the housing-cover knob on the side of the chainsaw and remove the cover.
  • Carefully place the chain around the guide bar, ensuring the cutting teeth are facing the correct direction (refer to the diagram on the guide bar).
  • Align the chain and guide bar with the sprocket and slot on the chainsaw body.
  • Replace the housing-cover and tighten the knob.

3.3 Chain Tensioning

Proper chain tension is crucial for safe and efficient operation. Adjust the screw to achieve the correct chain tightness (3-5mm play is ideal). A loose chain can derail, and an overly tight chain can cause excessive wear and reduce performance.

3.4 Oiling the Chain

This chainsaw does not have an automatic oiling system. It is essential to manually oil the chain and guide bar before each use and periodically during operation (every few cuts) to ensure smooth performance and prevent overheating. Use standard motor oil or chainsaw bar oil with the provided oil bottle.

  • Fill the provided oil bottle with appropriate lubricant.
  • Apply a small amount of oil directly along the guide bar and chain.
  • Run the chainsaw briefly to distribute the oil.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Operation

The WORKPRO Mini Chainsaw is designed for one-handed operation, offering ease of use and maneuverability.

  • Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly installed.
  • Hold the chainsaw firmly with one hand on the non-slip handle.
  • Depress the lock-out button (safety switch) with your thumb.
  • While holding the lock-out button, press the ON/OFF switch (trigger) to start the chain.
  • Release the trigger to stop the chain.

4.2 Cutting Techniques and Applications

This mini chainsaw is ideal for light-duty cutting tasks such as pruning branches, cutting small logs, and general wood cutting for gardening or home improvement projects.

  • Pruning: Easily cut through branches up to 4.7 inches in diameter.
  • Wood Cutting: Capable of cutting logs up to 11-12 cm (approx. 4.7 inches) in about 10 seconds, depending on wood hardness.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Care

To prolong the life of your battery, recharge it every 3-6 months if it is not used often.

5.2 Chain Sharpening and Replacement

The saw chains may become dull over time. You can either sharpen them using a suitable file or replace them with new ones. The kit includes two saw chains for convenience.

5.3 General Cleaning

Regularly clean sawdust and debris from the chain, guide bar, and internal mechanisms to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Use compressed air to blow out sawdust from the chain area after removing the side cover.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your WORKPRO Mini Chainsaw, consider the following common solutions:

  • Chainsaw not starting: Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly seated. Check that the safety lock-out button is fully depressed before pulling the trigger.
  • Poor cutting performance: Check chain tension; adjust if too loose or too tight. Ensure the chain is properly oiled. The chain might be dull and require sharpening or replacement.
  • Chain derailing: This is often caused by incorrect chain tension (too loose) or improper installation. Re-tension the chain or re-install it correctly.
  • Overheating: Ensure the chain is adequately lubricated. Avoid continuous heavy cutting without breaks.
