Setup Guide
Follow these steps to properly install your MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi Motherboard into your system.
1. Prepare Your Case and Motherboard
Ensure your PC case is compatible with ATX motherboards. Install the I/O shield (if not pre-attached) into the case's rear opening. Carefully align the motherboard with the standoffs in your case.

2. Processor (CPU) Installation
Locate the AM5 CPU socket. Open the retention arm and carefully place your AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processor into the socket, ensuring the golden triangle on the CPU aligns with the triangle on the socket. Close the retention arm to secure the CPU.
3. Memory (RAM) Installation
The motherboard supports DDR5 memory. Open the clips on the DIMM slots. Align the notch on the DDR5 memory module with the key in the DIMM slot. Press down firmly on both ends of the memory module until the clips snap into place. Refer to your motherboard manual for recommended dual-channel configurations.
4. Storage (M.2 SSD) Installation
Locate the M.2 slots, which are equipped with M.2 Shield Frozr heatsinks. Remove the heatsink and insert your PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD into the slot at an angle. Secure it with the provided EZ M.2 Clips or screw, then reattach the M.2 Shield Frozr heatsink.
5. Power Connections
Connect the 24-pin ATX main power connector and the 8-pin (or 4+4-pin) CPU power connector from your power supply unit (PSU) to the corresponding ports on the motherboard.
6. Graphics Card (GPU) Installation
Insert your graphics card into the primary PCIe x16 slot. Ensure it is fully seated and secure it with the case's retention clip and a screw.
7. Peripheral Connections
Connect your Wi-Fi antenna to the rear I/O panel for Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. Connect other peripherals such as USB devices, HDMI/DisplayPort cables, and Ethernet cables as needed.

Operating Instructions
Once your hardware is installed, you can proceed with operating your system.
1. Initial Boot and BIOS Setup
Power on your system. Press the DEL key during startup to enter the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System). The MSI BIOS interface is user-friendly and allows for system configuration, including boot order, fan speeds, and memory profiles (XMP/EXPO).
2. Driver Installation
After installing your operating system (e.g., Windows 11), install the necessary drivers for your motherboard components. MSI provides the MSI Center software, which can help with driver installation and system monitoring. Alternatively, drivers can be downloaded manually from the official MSI website.
3. Network Connectivity
Utilize the integrated 2.5G LAN for wired internet connection or the Intel Wi-Fi 6E for high-speed wireless connectivity. Ensure the Wi-Fi antenna is securely attached for optimal wireless performance.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your motherboard.
1. Dust Removal
Periodically clean dust from your PC case and motherboard components using compressed air. Dust buildup can impede airflow and lead to overheating.
2. BIOS Updates
Keep your BIOS updated to ensure compatibility with new CPUs, improve stability, and gain access to new features. The MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi features a Flash BIOS Button, allowing you to update the BIOS even without a CPU or RAM installed. Refer to the official MSI website for the latest BIOS versions and instructions.
3. Driver and Software Updates
Regularly check for updated drivers for your motherboard, graphics card, and other components. Keeping software up-to-date can resolve issues and improve performance.
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter.
1. System Not Booting / No Display
- Check EZ Debug LEDs: The motherboard features EZ Debug LEDs (CPU, DRAM, VGA, BOOT) that light up to indicate the component causing a boot failure. This can help quickly diagnose issues.
- BIOS Update: If using a newer CPU model, a BIOS update might be required. Utilize the Flash BIOS Button feature as described in the Maintenance section.
- Reseat Components: Ensure all components (CPU, RAM, GPU, power cables) are properly seated in their respective slots.
2. Graphics Card Not Detected
- Reseat GPU: Ensure the graphics card is fully seated in the PCIe slot and its power cables are connected.
- Driver Issues: Install or update graphics drivers. If no display, try booting with integrated graphics (if your CPU has one) or in Safe Mode to install drivers.
- PCIe Lane Sharing: Be aware that installing an NVMe SSD in the first M.2 slot (closest to the CPU) may affect the PCIe lanes available to the GPU, potentially reducing it from x16 to x8. This is a design characteristic and not a fault.
3. Network Connectivity Issues
- Driver Installation: Ensure LAN and Wi-Fi drivers are correctly installed.
- Antenna Connection: For Wi-Fi, ensure the antennas are securely connected to the rear I/O panel.
- Router/Modem Check: Verify your network equipment is functioning correctly.
