2. Safety Information

  • Read all instructions completely before installing and operating the lock.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble the lock. This may void the warranty.
  • Use only the specified battery type (4 AA alkaline batteries). Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries.

4. Setup and Installation

The Weiser SmartCode Keypad Electronic Deadbolt is designed for easy installation. For detailed, interactive 3D instructions with voice and video guidance, it is recommended to use the free BILT app.

4.1 Door Compatibility

This deadbolt is compatible with standard doors measuring 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" (35mm to 44mm) thick. It features an adjustable backset for both 2-3/8" (60mm) and 2-3/4" (70mm) settings. It is suitable for most exterior and interior residential doors.

4.2 Installation Steps (Overview)

  1. Prepare the Door: Ensure your door is properly prepped with the correct bore holes and backset.
  2. Install the Latch: Insert the adjustable latch into the door edge and secure it with screws. Adjust the backset if necessary.
  3. Install the Exterior Keypad: Route the cable from the exterior keypad through the door and position the keypad on the exterior side.
  4. Install the Mounting Plate: Secure the interior mounting plate to the door, connecting it to the exterior keypad.
  5. Install the Interior Assembly: Connect the cable from the exterior keypad to the interior assembly. Mount the interior assembly onto the mounting plate and secure it.
  6. Install Batteries: Insert 4 AA alkaline batteries into the interior assembly.
  7. Perform Door Handing Process: This step is crucial for the lock to learn the orientation of your door. Follow the specific instructions in the BILT app or the included quick start guide.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Locking the Door

  • One-Touch Locking: Press the Lock button (padlock icon) on the keypad. The deadbolt will extend, securing the door.
  • Auto-Lock Feature: The lock can be programmed to automatically re-lock after a set period (e.g., 30 seconds) after unlocking. Refer to the programming section for details on enabling/disabling this feature.

5.2 Unlocking the Door

  • Using a User Code: Enter your personalized 4-8 digit user code on the keypad. The deadbolt will retract, unlocking the door.
  • Using a Key: Insert the physical key into the keyway and turn to unlock.

5.3 Keypad Features

  • Backlit Keypad: The keypad illuminates for increased visibility in low-light conditions and remains lit for 30 seconds after inactivity.

5.4 Programming User Codes

The lock supports up to 50 unique user access codes and one master code. The master code is used for programming and managing user codes.

5.5 SmartKey Re-Key Technology

SmartKey Security allows you to re-key your lock yourself in seconds, providing flexibility and control over your keys. This is useful in situations such as moving to a new home, losing keys, or managing multiple doors with a single key.

To re-key your lock:

  1. Insert your functioning key (the key that currently operates the lock) and turn it 90 degrees clockwise.
  2. Insert the SmartKey tool fully into the SmartKey hole.
  3. Remove the SmartKey tool.
  4. Remove your functioning key.
  5. Insert your new key fully and turn it 180 degrees counter-clockwise.
  6. Remove the new key. The lock is now re-keyed to the new key.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Replacement

The deadbolt operates on 4 AA alkaline batteries. When the batteries are low, the lock will provide an audible and/or visual low battery warning. Replace all four batteries simultaneously with new, high-quality alkaline batteries.

Expected battery life is approximately 12 months under normal usage conditions.

6.2 Cleaning

Clean the lock with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish and electronic components.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Weiser SmartCode deadbolt, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Lock not responding: Check battery levels and replace if necessary. Ensure batteries are inserted with correct polarity.
  • Keypad not lighting up: Replace batteries. If the issue persists, contact support.
  • Lock not locking/unlocking: Perform the door handing process again. Check for any obstructions in the door frame or latch. Verify user codes are correctly programmed.
  • Difficulty re-keying: Ensure the functioning key is fully inserted and turned 90 degrees. Make sure the SmartKey tool is fully inserted into the hole.
  • Frequent low battery warnings: Ensure you are using new, high-quality alkaline batteries. Extreme temperatures can affect battery performance.
