1. Introduction
The GOLDCHAMP GC-EU-38A is a digital voltage and continuity tester designed for testing AC/DC currents. It features a rotating field test, single-pole voltage test, and continuity test. For operation in low-light conditions, a built-in flashlight illuminates the measurement point. This voltmeter is suitable for use in electrical engineering, industrial applications, maintenance, and photovoltaics. Constructed with high-quality components, it provides accurate readings even after frequent use. Its compact dimensions and low net weight make it portable and easy to carry.
2. Safety Precautions
Read all safety information and operating instructions before using this instrument. Failure to follow these warnings and instructions can result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Never take measurements on a circuit where the electrical potential exceeds 690V. If the measured voltage exceeds 690V, all voltage LED indicators will illuminate.
- Do not attempt to take measurements in the presence of flammable gases, as the instrument may cause sparks that could lead to an explosion.
- Never use the instrument with wet hands or in the rain.
- Keep your hands and fingers behind the barriers during measurements.
- Never unlock or open the battery compartment during measurement.
- Always verify proper operation on a known live source before taking measurements.
- Never attempt to take measurements under abnormal conditions, such as a broken casing or exposed metal parts on the instrument or test leads.
- Do not modify the instrument.
- Exercise extreme caution when the LED circuit flashes or illuminates.
- The correct display of LEDs is guaranteed only within a temperature range of -10°C to 55°C (< 85% RH).

4. Getting Started
4.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the GOLDCHAMP GC-EU-38A Voltage and Continuity Tester from its packaging. Ensure all components are present:
- 1 x Voltage Tester with Test Probes
- 1 x User Manual
- 2 x 1.5V Batteries (AA type)
4.2 Battery Installation
The tester is powered by two 1.5V batteries (IEC LR03 1.5Vx2). To install or replace batteries:
- Ensure the device is turned off and disconnected from any power source.
- Locate the battery compartment cover, typically at the bottom or rear of the device.
- Use a small coin to open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert the two 1.5V batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Securely close the battery compartment cover.

4.3 Initial Self-Test
Before each use, it is recommended to perform a self-test on a known live source to ensure the tester is functioning correctly. If the power indicator light blinks or goes out during the self-diagnostic test, the battery may need to be replaced.

5.2 Voltage Measurement (AC/DC)
The tester automatically detects AC or DC voltage. Connect the test probes to the circuit or component you wish to measure. The voltage will be displayed on the LCD, and corresponding LED indicators will light up.
- LED Indication Voltage Test:
Voltage Range: 12-690V AC/DC
Nominal Voltage (European): 12/24/50/120/230/400/690V
Tolerance (Threshold Voltage) Light ON at more than:
- 7 ± 5V (12V LED)
- 18 ± 5V (24V LED)
- 37.5 ± 5V (50V LED)
- 75% ± 5% of nominal voltage (120/230/400/690V)
Response Time: <0.5s at 100% of each nominal voltage - LCD Display Voltage Test:
Range / Resolution: 7-690V / 1V (Auto-Range)
Accuracy (23 ± 5°C): (3% + 3) or 5V
Overrange Indication: All Voltage LEDs light up
Response Time: <1s at 90% of each voltage
5.3 Continuity Test
To perform a continuity test, select the continuity function (if applicable via the SELECT button). Connect the test probes across the component or circuit. A buzzer will sound, and an LED indicator will light up if continuity is detected.
- Detection Range: 0-550KΩ (±200K)
- Test Current: Approximately 1.5uA (3V battery, 0Ω)
5.4 Phase Rotation Test
This function is used for three-phase AC systems.
- System: Three-phase 4-wire AC system
- Frequency: 50Hz~60Hz
- Phase Range: 120 ± 5 degrees
5.5 Flashlight Function
Press and hold the 'PEN' button for 2 seconds to activate the built-in flashlight. This feature is useful for illuminating dark work areas. The flashlight will typically turn off automatically after a short period or by pressing the button again.

Figure 5.3: The top light can function even at night, and the data hold feature locks the measured value on the LCD.
5.6 Data Hold Function
Once stable data is measured, the instrument will lock the value on the LCD screen, which is convenient for reading. The instrument will automatically turn off after 15 seconds if no further action is taken.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
To clean the instrument, wipe the casing with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the instrument is completely dry before use.
6.2 Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, or if the power indicator blinks/goes out during self-test, replace the batteries as described in Section 4.2. Always use two new 1.5V AA batteries.
6.3 Storage
If the instrument is not used for a long period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage. Store the tester in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Display/Instrument Not Turning On:
Check battery installation and polarity. Replace batteries if they are low or depleted. - Inaccurate Readings:
Ensure test probes are making good contact. Verify the instrument's functionality on a known live source. Check for any physical damage to the instrument or leads. - LEDs Not Lighting Up Correctly:
Ensure the ambient temperature is within the specified range (-10°C to 55°C). If all voltage LEDs light up, it indicates an over-range condition. - Continuity Test Not Working:
Ensure the continuity function is selected (if applicable). Check for open circuits or high resistance.
