Setup

  1. Prepare the Playing Area: Choose a flat, stable surface large enough for all players and the domino layout.
  2. Distribute Racks: Each player receives one wooden tray/rack.
  3. Shuffle Dominoes: Place all 91 domino tiles face down and shuffle them thoroughly.
  4. Draw Tiles:
    • For 2-4 players (this set's capacity), each player draws 15 dominoes.
Players place their drawn dominoes on their wooden racks, keeping them hidden from opponents.
  5. Identify the Starting Double: The highest double domino (e.g., 12-12) is the starting tile. The player with this tile places it in the center of the hub. If no player has the 12-12, players draw additional tiles until it is found. If the 12-12 is not found, the 11-11 is used, and so on.
  6. Place the Hub: Position the central hub on the playing surface.
  7. Distribute Trains: Each player receives one colorful train marker.

Operating Instructions (Game Rules)

The objective of Mexican Train Dominoes is for a player to play all the dominoes from their hand onto one or more "trains" originating from a central hub. The game typically involves several rounds, and the player with the lowest score at the end wins.

Gameplay Overview

  1. Starting Player: The player who placed the starting double domino begins the game.
  2. Building Trains: Each player starts their own "personal train" from the central hub. The first domino played on a personal train must match the number of the central double (e.g., if 12-12 is the center, the first tile must have a 12 on one end).
  3. Turns: On a player's turn, they must play one domino.
    • A domino can be played on their own personal train.
    • A domino can be played on the "Mexican Train" (a public train accessible to all players, usually marked with a special train token).
    • A domino can be played on an opponent's train if that train is marked with a train token (indicating it is "open").
  4. Drawing Dominoes: If a player cannot make a move, they must draw one domino from the boneyard (the pile of remaining face-down dominoes). If they can play the drawn domino, they do so. If not, they place a train token on their personal train, indicating it is now "open" for other players to play on.
  5. Playing Doubles: When you play a double domino, you must make another play. If you cannot make another play, you must draw a domino. If you can play the drawn domino, you do so. If not, you place a marker on your train, indicating it is open for other players to play on.
  6. Ending a Round: A round ends when a player plays their last domino or when no more moves can be made by any player.

Scoring

At the end of each round, players count the total number of pips (dots or numbers) on their remaining dominoes. The player who went out scores 0 points. The goal is to have the lowest score after all rounds are played.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe domino tiles, wooden racks, and the hub with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid harsh chemicals.
  • Storage: Always store all game components in the provided portable case when not in use. This protects the tiles from scratches and prevents loss of small pieces.
  • Handling: Handle domino tiles and wooden racks with care to prevent chipping or damage.

Troubleshooting

  • Missing Pieces: Carefully check the portable case and playing area. If a piece is genuinely missing, contact customer support.
  • Damaged Components: If any component arrives damaged, please refer to the warranty and support section for assistance.
  • Confusion with Rules: Refer to the "Operating Instructions" section of this manual. Many online resources and video tutorials are also available for visual guidance on Mexican Train Dominoes gameplay.
