4. Installation Instructions

Replacing the sealing ring and overpressure plug is a straightforward process. Always ensure your pressure cooker is completely cool and depressurized before attempting any replacement.

4.1 Replacing the Sealing Ring:

  1. Remove Old Ring: Carefully pull the old sealing ring from the groove on the underside of the pressure cooker lid. It may be stiff or brittle if it's old.
  2. Clean Lid Groove: Clean the groove thoroughly to remove any food particles or residue. A clean groove ensures a proper seal with the new ring.
  3. Install New Ring: Place the new PROSOCOOL sealing ring into the groove on the underside of the lid. Ensure it is seated evenly and completely around the entire circumference. The ring should fit snugly without any twists or kinks.
  4. Lubricate (Optional): For easier lid closure and to extend the life of the ring, you may apply a thin coat of cooking oil (vegetable oil or mineral oil) to the sealing ring before each use.

4.2 Replacing the Overpressure Plug:

  1. Locate Plug: Identify the overpressure plug on your pressure cooker lid.
  2. Remove Old Plug: Gently push the old overpressure plug out from the underside of the lid.
  3. Install New Plug: Insert the new PROSOCOOL overpressure plug into the opening from the top of the lid, pushing it firmly until it snaps into place. Ensure it is securely seated.

5. Maintenance and Care

Proper maintenance extends the life of your sealing ring and ensures safe operation of your pressure cooker.

  • Cleaning: The sealing ring is dishwasher safe. After each use, remove the sealing ring from the lid and wash it with warm, soapy water or place it in the dishwasher. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to air dry completely before re-installing.
  • Storage: Store the sealing ring loosely in the lid or separately to prevent it from becoming compressed or deformed. Avoid storing it tightly stretched or folded.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the sealing ring for cracks, tears, hardening, or any signs of deformation. A damaged or hardened ring will not create a proper seal.

6. Troubleshooting

If your pressure cooker is not sealing properly after replacing the ring, consider the following:

  • Improper Seating: Ensure the sealing ring is fully and evenly seated in the lid's groove without any twists.
  • Lid Alignment: Verify that the pressure cooker lid is correctly aligned and closed according to your pressure cooker's specific instructions.
  • Food Debris: Check for any food particles or debris on the sealing ring or in the lid's groove that might prevent a proper seal.
  • Ring Condition: Even new rings can sometimes have minor imperfections. Re-inspect the ring for any visible damage.
  • Other Components: Ensure other sealing components of your pressure cooker, such as the air vent/cover lock and steam release valve, are clean and functioning correctly.

When to Replace: Presto instructions recommend replacing the sealing ring and overpressure plug when they show signs of deformation, hardening, or inflexibility. Typically, this is recommended annually or every two years, depending on usage.
