4. Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your JPHTEK K21 numeric keypad.

4.1 Cleaning

  • Disconnect the keypad from your computer before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface of the keypad.
  • For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth with a mild cleaning solution can be used, ensuring no liquid enters the key switches or internal components.
  • Compressed air can be used to remove dust and debris from between the keycaps.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the keypad's finish and keycap legends.

4.2 General Care

  • Avoid exposing the keypad to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or high humidity.
  • Do not drop or subject the keypad to strong impacts.
  • The attached USB cable is durable but should not be excessively bent or pulled to prevent internal damage.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your JPHTEK K21 numeric keypad, please refer to the following common solutions.

5.1 Keypad Not Responding

  • Check USB Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely plugged into both the keypad and your computer's USB port. Try a different USB port.
  • Restart Computer: Sometimes a simple system restart can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Test on Another Computer: If possible, test the keypad on a different computer to determine if the issue is with the keypad or your original computer's setup.

5.2 Backlighting Issues

  • Adjust Brightness/Mode: Use Fn + 5 to cycle through lighting modes and Fn + + / Enter to adjust brightness. Ensure the brightness is not set to the lowest level or 'lights-off' mode.
  • Brightness Resetting: If the backlight brightness resets to maximum after a computer restart, this is a known characteristic of the device and cannot be changed.

5.3 Special Keys Not Working on macOS/Chromebook

  • Some advanced functions, such as the Euro sign, Yen sign, Calculator button, and NumLock arrow functions, may not be fully compatible with macOS or Chromebook operating systems. This is due to system-level differences in key mapping.

5.4 NumLock Functionality

  • The NumLock function on the K21 keypad operates independently. If your main keyboard's NumLock is off, the keypad's NumLock can still be active, and vice-versa. Press the NUM key to toggle its state.
