Safety Precautions
- Always connect the amplifier to a grounded power outlet.
- Do not expose the amplifier to rain or moisture.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.
- Do not open the amplifier casing; there are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
- Disconnect power before making any connections or disconnections.
- Avoid placing the amplifier near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
Setup
1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the amplifier from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage that may have occurred during transit. Retain the original packaging for future transport or storage.
2. Placement
Place the amplifier on a stable, flat surface. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit (at least 10 cm on all sides) for proper airflow and heat dissipation. Avoid placing it on carpeted surfaces or in enclosed cabinets without ventilation.
3. Connections
Before making any connections, ensure the amplifier is turned off and disconnected from the power supply.
- Input Connections: Connect your audio source (mixer, pre-amplifier, etc.) to the amplifier's input jacks (XLR or TRS, depending on the model) using high-quality shielded cables.
- Output Connections: Connect your speakers to the amplifier's output terminals (Speakon or binding posts). Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for each speaker. The CA18 supports 8Ω and 4Ω speaker loads.
- Power Connection: Connect the supplied power cord to the amplifier's AC inlet, then plug it into a suitable grounded electrical outlet.
Operating Instructions
1. Powering On/Off
- To power on, ensure all connections are secure, then press the power switch on the front panel. The power indicator light will illuminate.
- To power off, press the power switch again. It is recommended to turn down volume controls before powering off.
2. Volume Control
Adjust the individual channel volume knobs on the front panel to control the output level for each connected speaker. Start with the volume at minimum and gradually increase it to the desired listening level.
3. Indicator Lights
Observe the indicator lights on the front panel:
- POWER: Illuminates when the unit is powered on.
- SIGNAL: Indicates the presence of an audio signal.
- CLIP: Illuminates when the output signal is clipping (distorting). Reduce the input level or volume to prevent damage to speakers.
- PROTECT: Illuminates if the amplifier enters protection mode due to overheating, short circuit, or DC offset. Turn off the unit, check connections, and allow it to cool before restarting.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the amplifier. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Ventilation: Regularly check that the ventilation grilles are free from dust and obstructions. Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to gently remove any accumulated dust.
- Connections: Periodically check all cable connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
- Storage: If storing the amplifier for an extended period, disconnect it from power, clean it, and store it in a cool, dry place, preferably in its original packaging.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Power cord not connected; Power outlet faulty; Amplifier fuse blown. | Check power cord connection; Try a different outlet; Contact service for fuse replacement. |
| No sound output | Input cables loose/faulty; Speaker cables loose/faulty; Volume knobs turned down; Amplifier in protect mode. | Check all audio and speaker connections; Increase volume; Refer to PROTECT indicator section. |
| Distorted sound (CLIP light on) | Input signal too high; Amplifier overloaded. | Reduce input level from source; Reduce amplifier volume. |
| Amplifier overheats (PROTECT light on) | Insufficient ventilation; Speaker impedance too low; Prolonged high-volume operation. | Ensure proper airflow; Check speaker impedance (must be 4Ω or 8Ω); Reduce volume and allow to cool. |
