Figure 4: Dimensions of the MOTOBERRY controller, showing length, width, and height measurements for installation planning.

  2. Connect Battery Wires: Connect the main battery positive and negative wires (labeled 17 in Figure 2) to your battery. Ensure correct polarity.
  3. Connect Motor Phase Lines: Connect the motor phase lines (labeled 16 in Figure 2) to your brushless motor. These are typically three thicker wires.
  4. Connect Hall Sensor Wires: Connect the Hall sensor wires (labeled 4 and 10 in Figure 2) from your motor to the controller. These are usually thinner wires.
  5. Connect Electric Door Lock: Connect the electric door lock wires (labeled 12 in Figure 2). This connection is crucial for the controller to receive power. If your throttle does not have a key lock, these two wires can be connected directly to each other to bypass the key lock function.
  6. Connect Speed Control Handle (Throttle): Connect the speed control handle wires (labeled 2 in Figure 2).
  7. Connect Brake Levers: Connect the low level brake (1) and high level brake (7) wires as per your system's requirements.
  8. Connect Other Functions: Connect other wires such as Cruise (3), Reverse Gear (5), Intelligent Recognition (8), Phase Meter (9), Three Speed Gear (11), Anti-Theft Alarm Signal (13), Anti-Theft Power (14), and Multiple Data Meter (15) as needed for your specific setup.
  9. Initial Power-Up: After all connections are secure, you may power on the system. The controller is a square wave type and should automatically identify the motor phase angle.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed and powered, the MOTOBERRY controller manages the power delivery to your e-bike or scooter motor. Operation is primarily through your connected throttle and brake levers.

  • Power On: Ensure the electric door lock is engaged (or wires are connected) to power the controller.
  • Throttle Control: Use the speed control handle (throttle) to regulate motor speed. The controller provides sensitive and steady speed adjustments.
  • Braking: Activating the brake levers will cut power to the motor, providing effective braking.
  • Special Functions: Utilize connected features like cruise control, three-speed gear, or reverse gear as per your vehicle's design and your preferences.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your MOTOBERRY Intelligent Brushless Motor Controller, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check all wire connections for tightness and signs of wear or corrosion.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the controller clean and free from dust, dirt, and debris. Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning.
  • Environmental Protection: Protect the controller from extreme temperatures, direct water exposure, and high humidity.
  • Heat Dissipation: Ensure the controller's aluminum alloy casing, which acts as a heatsink, is not obstructed to allow for proper heat dissipation.
  • Avoid Overloading: Do not exceed the controller's specified voltage and current limits to prevent damage.
