2. Setup
- Unpack Components: Remove all parts from the packaging: pitcher, lid, and filter.
- Wash Pitcher: Hand-wash the pitcher and lid with mild detergent and rinse thoroughly. Do not wash the filter in a dishwasher.
- Prepare Filter: Submerge the new Brita Standard filter in cold water for 15 seconds to remove loose carbon particles and air bubbles.
- Insert Filter: Align the groove on the filter with the ridge in the pitcher's reservoir. Press the filter firmly into the reservoir until it clicks into place.
- Initial Filtration: Fill the reservoir with cold tap water. Discard the first two pitchers of filtered water or use them for plants. This primes the filter.

3. Operating Instructions
- Filling the Pitcher: Open the easy-fill lid. Place the pitcher under a cold water tap and fill the reservoir. The water will filter through to the main pitcher compartment.
- Filtering Process: Allow the water to pass through the filter completely before pouring. This ensures optimal filtration.
- Pouring Water: Once filtered, simply tilt the pitcher to pour clean water from the spout.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning
Regular cleaning of your Brita pitcher is recommended. Hand-wash all parts (except the filter) with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly. The pitcher is not dishwasher safe.
4.2 Filter Replacement
For best results, replace your Brita Standard water filter every 40 gallons or approximately every 2 months. The SmartLight indicator on the lid will help you track filter life.

5. SmartLight Indicator
The Brita SmartLight indicator on the lid provides a visual cue for when to change your filter:
- Green Light: Filter is in good condition.
- Yellow Light: Filter needs to be changed soon. Prepare a new filter.
- Red Light: Filter needs to be changed. Replace the filter immediately for optimal performance.
To reset the SmartLight indicator after replacing the filter, press and hold the reset button on the lid for 5 seconds until the green light flashes.

6. Troubleshooting
- Slow Filtration: Ensure the filter is properly seated. If the issue persists, the filter may be clogged and require replacement.
- Water Taste/Odor: If the filtered water still has an undesirable taste or odor, ensure the filter was properly primed (discarding the first two pitchers). If the problem continues, replace the filter.
- SmartLight Indicator Not Working: Check if the battery is depleted. Some models have replaceable batteries. If not, contact customer support.
- Water Leaks: Verify that all components, especially the filter and lid, are correctly assembled and securely in place.
