2.2 Battery Installation

The MD-6350 requires four (4) AA batteries for operation. To install or replace batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the control housing.
  2. Slide the cover off the battery compartment.
  3. Insert four AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Slide the cover back on until it clicks securely into place.

Note: For optimal performance, use high-quality alkaline or rechargeable AA batteries. Expected runtime is 20 to 40 hours depending on battery type and quality.

2.3 Assembling the Detector

Connect the search coil to the adjustable stem, and then attach the stem to the control housing. Ensure all connections are secure. The cable from the search coil should be wrapped neatly around the stem and plugged into the control housing.

Figure 4: The MD6350 control panel with its LCD display, showing various indicators for mode, sensitivity, discrimination, and target ID.

  • Mode Indicator: Highlights the selected detection mode (Zero, Jewelry, Custom, Artifact, or Coin).
  • Target ID Legend: Works with the Target ID cursor to suggest the identity of the detected target.
  • Target ID Cursor (Upper Scale): Composed of twelve (12) graphic segments, indicating the possible identity of the detected target.
  • Subscale (Gap Discrimination Scale): Shows the discrimination mode. The detector will produce an audible response for 'on' pixels, and no response for 'off' pixels.
  • Sensitivity Indicator: Displays the current sensitivity setting (8 settings available).

3.3 Detection Modes

The MD-6350 offers five distinct detection modes:

  • Zero Mode: Detects all metals without discrimination.
  • Jewelry Mode: Optimized for finding jewelry, typically ignoring iron trash.
  • Custom Mode: Allows the user to set specific discrimination patterns.
  • Artifact Mode: Designed to find historical artifacts, often in areas with iron.
  • Coin Mode: Specifically tuned to detect coins, filtering out common trash.

You can adjust the recognition mode by changing the mode and/or using the DISCRIM and accept/reject (V/X) buttons.

3.4 Sensitivity Adjustment

The MD-6350 has eight sensitivity settings. Adjusting sensitivity allows you to optimize performance based on ground conditions and target depth. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but may also increase false signals in mineralized ground.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your MD-6350 metal detector.

4.1 Battery Care

  • Always remove batteries if the MD-6350 is to be stored for more than 30 days to prevent leakage and damage.
  • Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the LCD screen.

4.2 Cleaning

  • Wipe down the control housing and stem with a damp cloth after each use. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • The search coil is waterproof and can be rinsed with fresh water if it becomes dirty. Ensure the coil cable connection to the control housing is dry before storing.

4.3 Storage

Store the detector in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If disassembling for storage, ensure all components are clean and dry.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your MD-6350 metal detector, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:

  • No Power: Check that the batteries are correctly installed and fully charged. Ensure the battery compartment cover is securely closed.
  • Erratic Signals/False Alarms: Reduce the sensitivity setting. Ensure you are not operating near strong electromagnetic interference (e.g., power lines, other electronic devices). Check that the search coil cable is securely connected and not damaged.
  • No Target ID Display: Ensure the detector is in an appropriate mode for target identification. Check sensitivity settings.
  • Poor Detection Depth: Increase sensitivity if ground conditions allow. Ensure the search coil is parallel to the ground during sweeps. Check battery level.

If problems persist after attempting these steps, please contact customer support.
