Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Generic Gold Finder Metal Detector. This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper assembly, operation, and maintenance of your new metal detector. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure safe and efficient operation. Keep this manual for future reference.
Safety Information
- Always obtain permission before searching on private property.
- Avoid searching in areas where underground cables or pipes may be present.
- Be aware of local regulations regarding metal detecting.
- Use caution when digging to avoid injury or damage to property.
- Keep the device away from extreme temperatures and moisture.
- Do not attempt to modify the detector, as this may void the warranty and cause damage.
Product Features
- Two Operation Modes: All Metal and Disc (Discrimination) for versatile searching.
- Adjustable Volume: Control the audio output for speakers and headphones.
- Headphone Jack: Allows connection of headphones (not provided) for private searching.
- Target Indicator: A gauge and pointer indicate metal detection.
- Waterproof Search Coil: Enables searching in shallow water.
Package Contents
Please check the package carefully to ensure all components are present:
- Main Control Unit with Armrest
- Adjustable Stem
- Waterproof Search Coil
- Fastening Knob and Washer for Search Coil
- Instruction Manual
Assembly and Setup
- Attach the Search Coil: Connect the search coil to the lower stem using the provided fastening knob and washer. Ensure it is securely tightened.
- Connect the Stems: Insert the lower stem into the middle stem, and then insert the middle stem into the upper stem (control unit). Adjust the length to a comfortable position.
- Secure the Control Unit: Ensure the control unit is firmly attached to the upper stem.
- Wrap the Cable: Carefully wrap the search coil cable around the stem, leaving enough slack for coil movement. Plug the cable connector into the control unit's port.
- Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the control unit and insert two 9V (6F22) batteries, observing polarity. Close the compartment securely.

Operating Instructions
Powering On/Off
To turn on the detector, rotate the VOLUME knob clockwise. To turn off, rotate it counter-clockwise until it clicks.
Operation Modes
- ALL METAL Mode: This mode detects all types of metal. It is suitable for general searching and finding various metallic objects.
- DISC (Discrimination) Mode: This mode allows the detector to distinguish between different types of metals, enabling you to filter out unwanted metals (e.g., iron) and focus on more valuable targets. Refer to the control panel for specific discrimination settings.
Adjusting Volume
Rotate the VOLUME knob to increase or decrease the sound level from the built-in speaker or connected headphones.
Using Headphones
For private searching or in noisy environments, plug a standard 3.5mm headphone jack into the designated port on the control unit. The internal speaker will automatically mute.
Interpreting Signals
- Audio Tone: The detector will emit an audible tone when metal is detected. The pitch or intensity may vary depending on the metal type and depth.
- Gauge Pointer: When metal is found, the gauge pointer on the control panel will swing to the right, indicating a target.
Sweeping Technique
Hold the search coil parallel to the ground, about 1-2 inches above the surface. Sweep the coil slowly from side to side in overlapping arcs. Move at a steady pace for optimal detection.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the detector with a damp cloth after each use. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. The search coil is waterproof, but the control unit is not.
- Storage: Store the detector in a dry, cool place when not in use. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the detector's performance diminishes or the low battery indicator (if present) activates.
- Cable Care: Avoid sharp bends or kinks in the search coil cable to prevent internal damage.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power or no sound. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity; replace with fresh 9V batteries. |
| Erratic or false signals. | Electromagnetic interference (EMI) from power lines, other electronics, or highly mineralized ground. | Move away from sources of interference. Try adjusting sensitivity (if available) or switching to a different mode. |
| Detector not finding metal. | Incorrect mode selected; sensitivity too low; coil not sweeping correctly. | Ensure "ALL METAL" mode is selected for general searching. Increase sensitivity. Sweep the coil slowly and parallel to the ground. |
| Weak signals. | Low batteries; small or deep target. | Replace batteries. Adjust sensitivity. |
