1. Introduction

2. Safety Information

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, observe the following:

  • Install this unit only in the manner intended by the manufacturer. If you have questions, contact the manufacturer.
  • Before servicing or cleaning, switch power off at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel.
  • Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by qualified person(s) in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction codes and standards.
  • Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel burning equipment to prevent back-drafting. Follow the heating equipment manufacturer’s guideline and safety standards such as those published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the local code authorities.
  • When cutting or drilling into wall or ceiling, do not damage electrical wiring and other hidden utilities.
  • Ducted fans must always be vented to the outdoors.
  • Do not use this fan with any solid-state speed control device.
  • This unit is not intended for use in kitchens.

4. Setup and Installation

The Broan Fresh In supply fan is designed for flexible installation. It can be mounted flush to the ceiling, in the attic, within a wall, or any location where it fits and can be properly ducted to the outdoors.

4.1 Mounting Options

  • Between Joists: The included bracket facilitates installation between 12-inch ceiling joists. For 16-inch to 24-inch joists, the optional FIN-S1624 mounting bracket kit is required.
  • Flush Mount: Can be mounted flush to the ceiling or wall.
  • Attic/Remote: Suitable for installation in attics or other remote locations, provided proper ducting is maintained.

4.2 Electrical Connection

The unit is available in both hardwired and 6-ft power cord versions. Ensure all electrical connections comply with local electrical codes and are performed by a qualified electrician.

  • For hardwired models, connect the fan to a dedicated circuit as per wiring diagrams provided in the full installation guide (not included in this manual).
  • For models with a 6-ft power cord, plug the unit into a grounded electrical outlet.

4.3 Ducting

Ensure proper ducting to the outdoors. The fan features 6-inch round ports. Use appropriate ducting materials and seal all connections to prevent air leakage and maintain efficiency.

5. Operating Instructions

5.2 Temperature and Humidity Sensor

6. Maintenance

6.1 Filter Cleaning and Replacement
