1. Introduction
The Retro Fighters Defender Wireless Gamepad is designed for enhanced gaming across multiple platforms. This controller offers modern features and ergonomic design while maintaining compatibility with classic and contemporary systems. It is compatible with PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Classic, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

2. Setup
2.1 Package Contents
Verify that all items are present in your package:
- Retro Fighters Defender Wireless Gamepad
- USB-C Charging Cable
- PS1/PS2 Receiver
- USB-A Receiver (for PS3, Switch, PC)

2.2 Charging the Controller
Before first use, fully charge the controller for a minimum of 2 hours. The controller features a built-in Lithium Ion battery, providing over 10 hours of gameplay per charge.
- Connect the included USB-C charging cable to the charging port on the top of the controller.
- Connect the other end of the USB-C cable to a compatible USB power source (e.g., console, PC, USB wall adapter).
- The LED indicators on the controller will show charging status.

2.3 Connecting to Consoles/PC
The Defender controller uses different receivers depending on the system.
2.3.1 PlayStation 1 & PlayStation 2
- Insert the dedicated PS1/PS2 receiver into an available controller port on your PlayStation 1 or PlayStation 2 console.
- Power on your console.
- Press the central Home button on the Defender controller to power it on and initiate pairing. The controller and receiver will automatically connect.

2.3.2 PlayStation 3, Nintendo Switch & PC
- Insert the USB-A receiver into an available USB port on your PlayStation 3 console, Nintendo Switch dock, or PC.
- Power on your system.
- Press the central Home button on the Defender controller to power it on and initiate pairing. The controller and receiver will automatically connect.
Note: When using with PlayStation 3, the controller does not support Sixaxis motion sensing capabilities.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Button Layout and Functions
The Defender gamepad features a familiar layout with modern enhancements:
- Analog Sticks: Two responsive analog sticks for precise movement and camera control.
- D-Pad: A digital directional pad for traditional control.
- Face Buttons: Standard PlayStation-style Triangle, Circle, Cross (X), and Square buttons, which are pressure-sensitive.
- Shoulder Buttons (L1, R1) & Triggers (L2, R2): Ergonomically placed for comfortable access.
- SELECT & START Buttons: For in-game menu navigation and actions.
- Home Button: Central button for powering on/off and system-specific functions (e.g., PS button on PlayStation systems).
- TURBO Button: Activates turbo functionality for rapid button presses.
- CLEAR Button: Clears active turbo settings.
3.2 Turbo Functionality
To activate Turbo for a button:
- Press and hold the TURBO button.
- While holding TURBO, press the desired face button (Triangle, Circle, Cross, or Square).
- Release both buttons. The selected button now has turbo functionality.
To clear Turbo for a button:
- Press and hold the CLEAR button.
- While holding CLEAR, press the button for which you want to disable turbo.
- Release both buttons. Turbo functionality is now disabled for that button.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning
To keep your controller in optimal condition:
- Wipe the controller regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
- For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth and mild soap, then wipe dry immediately.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the surface.
4.2 Battery Care
To maximize the lifespan of the internal Lithium Ion battery:
- Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
- Store the controller in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- If storing for an extended period, charge the battery to approximately 50% before storage.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Connection Issues
If the controller fails to connect or experiences intermittent connection:
- Ensure the correct receiver is securely plugged into the console/PC.
- Verify the controller is charged.
- Press the central Home button on the controller to re-initiate pairing.
- If issues persist, locate the small reset button on the back of the controller (often a small pinhole). Use a thin object (like a paperclip) to press and hold this button for a few seconds to perform a factory reset, then attempt to re-pair.
5.2 Input Lag or Unresponsive Buttons
If you experience delays or buttons not responding:
- Ensure you are within the wireless range (over 30 feet).
- Check for potential interference from other 2.4 GHz wireless devices.
- Perform a controller reset as described in section 5.1.
- For PC use, ensure drivers are up to date.
