4. Installation Guide

The Wengart WG505 thermostat is designed for flush-mounted wall installation and is compatible with standard 86x86mm round boxes or 60mm European boxes. Ensure power is disconnected before proceeding.

4.1 Wiring Diagram

Refer to the following diagram for correct wiring. The thermostat supports both internal and external NTC sensors. The external sensor is typically used for floor temperature measurement and acts as an additional safety feature.

Figure 3: Wiring diagram for the Wengart WG505 Digital Thermostat, illustrating connections for the external sensor, heating wire, and AC 230V power supply.

  • NTC (1, 2): Connect the external NTC temperature sensor here.
  • L1, N1 (OUT): Connect to the heating load (e.g., heating mat/cable). Max 16A.
  • N, L (AC 230V): Connect to the main AC 230V power supply.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and insulated. The cable lugs can accommodate 2 x 1.5 mm² or 1 x 2.5 mm² wires.

4.2 Mounting the Thermostat

  1. Prepare the wall box (86x86mm or 60mm European standard).
  2. Connect the wires according to the wiring diagram (Figure 3).
  3. Carefully push the thermostat into the wall box, ensuring wires are not pinched.
  4. Secure the thermostat to the wall box using the provided screws.
  5. Attach the front panel of the thermostat.
  6. Restore power to the circuit.

5. Operation

The WG505 thermostat offers intuitive control via its touch buttons and clear LCD display. It supports both manual and programmable modes.

5.1 Display and Buttons

  • LCD Display: Shows current room temperature, set temperature, time, day of the week, heating status, and various mode indicators.
  • Power Button (): Turns the thermostat ON/OFF.
  • Mode Button (): Switches between Manual Mode and Programmable Mode.
  • Clock Button (): Enters time and program settings.
  • Up Button (): Increases temperature or navigates menu options.
  • Down Button (): Decreases temperature or navigates menu options.

5.2 Setting Time and Day

Press and hold the Clock Button for 3 seconds to enter time setting mode. Use the Up and Down buttons to adjust the hour, minute, and day of the week. Press the Clock Button again to confirm each setting and move to the next.

5.3 Manual Mode

In Manual Mode, you can directly set the desired temperature. Press the Mode Button until the manual mode icon (often a hand or 'M') is displayed. Use the Up and Down buttons to adjust the target temperature. The thermostat will maintain this temperature until changed or switched to another mode.

5.4 Programmable Mode (Weekly Circulation)

The thermostat supports weekly programming with 6 daily events, allowing you to set different temperatures for various times of the day and week.

  5. Press the Clock Button to confirm each setting and move to the next.
  6. Once all settings are complete, the thermostat will automatically follow the programmed schedule.

5.5 Advanced Settings (Calibration, Sensor Selection, Differential)

The thermostat has advanced settings accessible through a specific key combination (refer to the full manual if this is not sufficient). These include:

  • Temperature Calibration: If the displayed temperature differs from the actual room temperature, you can calibrate it with a precision of 0.1 °C.
  • Sensor Selection: Choose between the internal sensor, external sensor, or both. When both are used, the external sensor provides an additional safety limit for floor temperature.
  • Start Temperature Difference: Adjust the hysteresis (difference between turn-on and turn-off temperatures) from 0.5 to 10 °C. For example, if set to 1 °C with a target of 20 °C, heating turns off at 21 °C and on at 19 °C.
  • Power-off Memory: The thermostat retains all settings even after a power outage.
  • Child Lock: Activate this feature to disable all buttons, preventing accidental changes by children. Look for a lock icon on the display.
  • Backlight: The white backlight illuminates when operated and turns off automatically after 30 seconds of inactivity.

6. Maintenance

The Wengart WG505 Digital Thermostat requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the display and casing with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or spray directly onto the thermostat.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the wiring connections for any signs of wear or looseness. Ensure the thermostat is securely mounted.
  • No user-serviceable parts inside. Do not attempt to open or repair the unit yourself.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Wengart WG505 thermostat, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Thermostat display is blank. No power supply.Check the circuit breaker and ensure the thermostat is correctly wired to the AC 230V supply.
