4. Installation and Setup

Follow these steps for proper installation of your water pressure pump.

4.1 Mounting the Pump

  • Choose a dry, secure location for mounting the pump.
  • Ensure the pump is mounted horizontally with the motor above the pump head if possible, to prevent water from entering the motor in case of a leak.
  • Use appropriate fasteners to secure the pump through its mounting feet. The rubber feet are designed to minimize vibration and noise.

4.2 Plumbing Connections

The pump has 1/2" NPT external pipe threads. Use the provided adapters for connection to 3/4" garden hoses or other systems.

  1. Install Strainer: For clean water operation, install the included 50 mesh stainless strainer at the inlet connection of the pump. This filters out debris and protects the pump. Firmly tighten the strainer.
  2. Connect Adapters: Install the barbed hose adapter to the threaded MNPT on the pump.
  3. Connect Hoses: Install your water supply hose to the inlet and the output hose to the outlet. Use the included Teflon tape for all threaded connections to ensure a watertight seal.
  4. Flow Direction: Ensure the water flow direction matches the arrows on the pump head.

4.3 Electrical Connections

  • Connect the pump to a 12V DC power source.
  • Ensure correct polarity: Red wire to positive (+), Black wire to negative (-).
  • It is recommended to install an appropriate fuse (not included) in the positive power line to protect the pump and electrical system.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed, the pump operates automatically based on water demand.

5.1 Initial Start-up

  1. Ensure all connections are secure and watertight.
  2. Open a faucet in your water system to allow air to escape.
  3. Apply 12V DC power to the pump. The pump will start running and self-prime, pushing air out of the system.
  4. Once a steady stream of water flows from the faucet, close the faucet. The pump will continue to run briefly to build pressure, then shut off automatically.

5.2 Automatic Operation

The pump is equipped with an on-demand pressure switch. It will automatically turn on when a faucet is opened and the system pressure drops, and turn off when the faucet is closed and the system reaches the set shut-off pressure.

5.3 Adjusting Pressure Switch

The factory shut-off pressure is set to 70 PSI, but it can be adjusted between 40-80 PSI.

  1. Locate the pressure switch on the pump head.
  2. Remove the top lid of the pressure switch.
  3. Find the screw hole in the center of the switch.
  4. Use a small Allen wrench (not included) to adjust the pressure:
    • Turn clockwise to increase pressure.
    • Turn counter-clockwise to decrease pressure.
  5. Test the pressure by opening and closing a faucet after each adjustment.
  6. Replace the top lid after adjustment.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your pump.

6.1 Cleaning the Strainer

The inlet strainer should be inspected and cleaned periodically, especially if you notice a decrease in flow rate.

  1. Disconnect power to the pump.
  2. Unscrew the clear housing of the strainer.
  3. Remove the mesh screen and rinse it thoroughly under clean water to remove any debris.
  4. Inspect the O-ring for damage and ensure it is properly seated.
  5. Reassemble the strainer, ensuring it is tightly sealed to prevent leaks.

6.2 Winterization (for RV/Outdoor Use)

  • Drain all water from the pump and plumbing system to prevent freezing damage.
  • Run RV antifreeze through the pump if recommended by your RV manufacturer.

7. Troubleshooting

Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump does not turn on.No power, incorrect wiring, blown fuse, faulty switch.Check power supply, verify wiring polarity, inspect fuse, test pressure switch.
Pump runs but no water flows. No water in supply, air in system, clogged inlet strainer, pump not primed.Ensure water supply, open faucets to bleed air, clean strainer, allow pump to self-prime.
Low flow or low pressure.Clogged strainer, kinked hose, low voltage, pressure switch set too low.Clean strainer, check hoses, verify 12V DC supply, adjust pressure switch (increase PSI).
Pump cycles on and off rapidly (short cycling).Leak in system, pressure switch set too high, bypass switch issue.Check for leaks, adjust pressure switch (decrease PSI), ensure bypass switch is functioning correctly.
Pump does not shut off.Leak in system, pressure switch malfunction, air in system.Check for leaks, inspect/adjust pressure switch, bleed air from system.
Excessive noise or vibration.Loose mounting, air in system, debris in pump head.Tighten mounting screws, bleed air, clean strainer, inspect pump head for foreign objects.
