TAGVIT 1/2" Drive Torque Wrench 20-220 Nm User Manual

Model: TA-027

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the TAGVIT 1/2" Drive Torque Wrench. This precision tool is designed for accurate torque application, essential for the safe and reliable assembly and maintenance of various components, including those found in bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles. Please read this manual thoroughly before use to ensure proper operation and to maximize the lifespan of your tool.

2. Safety Information

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, when using hand tools.
  • Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before applying torque.
  • Do not exceed the maximum torque rating of 220 Nm. Over-torquing can damage the fastener, the component, or the wrench itself.
  • Do not use the torque wrench for loosening fasteners. It is designed for precise tightening only.
  • Avoid dropping the wrench, as this can affect its calibration and accuracy.
  • Keep the wrench clean and free from oil or grease to maintain a secure grip.
  • Store the wrench in its protective case when not in use, and always reset the torque setting to its lowest value (or zero) before storage to relieve spring tension and preserve calibration.
  • This tool is not insulated. Do not use it on live electrical circuits.

3. Product Features

  • High Precision: Torque range of 20-220 Nm with an accuracy of ±3%. Each wrench is factory pre-calibrated and tested, meeting ISO 6789 and ASME B107.14M standards. A calibration certificate is included.
  • Durable Construction: The wrench head is made from hardened chrome-molybdenum alloy for enhanced durability. The handle features an anti-slip design for comfortable and secure gripping, resistant to rust and corrosion.
  • 72-Tooth Reversible Ratchet Head: Professional-grade 72-tooth ratchet head allows for both clockwise and counter-clockwise operation, providing versatility for various applications.
  • Quick-Release Button: Equipped with a quick-release button on the ratchet head for easy and secure attachment and removal of sockets.
  • Easy Torque Adjustment: Features a locking ring mechanism for simple and precise torque setting. Pull the ring to unlock, rotate the handle to adjust, then release to lock the desired torque value.
  • Audible and Tactile Feedback: When the set torque value is reached, the wrench produces an audible "click" sound and a slight vibration, indicating that no further force should be applied.
  • Convenient Storage: Supplied with a robust storage case for easy organization, protection, and transport of the torque wrench.

4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the torque wrench from its packaging. Inspect the tool for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Ensure all components, including the storage case and calibration certificate, are present. If any damage or missing parts are found, contact customer support immediately.

4.2 Initial Check

Before first use, familiarize yourself with the wrench's components: the handle, the torque scale, the locking ring, the ratchet head, and the quick-release button. Ensure the ratchet mechanism operates smoothly in both directions.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Setting the Torque Value

  1. Unlock: Pull down the locking ring located at the base of the handle. This will allow the handle to rotate freely.
  2. Adjust: Rotate the handle to align the desired torque value on the main scale (e.g., 40 Nm) with the central line. Then, continue rotating the handle until the supplementary scale (e.g., 2 Nm) aligns with the central line, adding to the main scale value (40 + 2 = 42 Nm).
  3. Lock: Release the locking ring. It will automatically spring back into position, securing the set torque value. Ensure the ring is fully engaged before use.

5.2 Attaching and Removing Sockets

The 1/2" drive ratchet head features a quick-release button for easy socket attachment and removal.

  • To Attach: Press the quick-release button on the ratchet head and firmly push the socket onto the square drive. Release the button to lock the socket in place. Ensure the socket is securely attached before use.
  • To Remove: Press the quick-release button and pull the socket off the square drive.

5.3 Selecting Ratchet Direction

The ratchet head is reversible, allowing for both clockwise (CW) and counter-clockwise (CCW) operation. Use the small lever on the ratchet head to select the desired direction. For torque application, ensure the wrench is set to the tightening direction (usually clockwise for most fasteners).

5.4 Applying Torque

  1. With the correct socket attached and the torque value set, position the wrench on the fastener.
  2. Apply smooth, steady force to the handle. Avoid jerky movements.
  3. Continue applying force until you hear and feel a distinct "click" from the wrench. This indicates that the preset torque value has been reached.
  4. Immediately stop applying force once the click is detected. Do not continue to tighten the fastener beyond this point.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the torque wrench clean with a dry, soft cloth after each use. Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish or internal components. Ensure no dirt or debris accumulates on the torque scale or in the ratchet mechanism.

6.2 Storage

After each use, it is crucial to reset the torque setting to its lowest value (20 Nm) or zero before storing the wrench. This relieves tension on the internal spring mechanism, helping to maintain the wrench's calibration and prolong its accuracy. Store the wrench in its provided protective case in a dry, clean environment, away from extreme temperatures and humidity.

6.3 Calibration

Torque wrenches are precision instruments that require periodic calibration to ensure continued accuracy. While this wrench is factory calibrated to ±3% accuracy, it is recommended to have it professionally recalibrated annually or after any significant impact or misuse. Refer to the included calibration certificate for details on the initial calibration.
