3. Safety Information

Please read and understand all instructions before installing and operating the detector. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage, injury, or death.

  • Placement: Install detectors on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and outside each sleeping area. Avoid placing detectors in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, or near heating vents, as steam, cooking fumes, or exhaust can cause false alarms.
  • Do Not Paint: The detector's casing is designed with specific vents for smoke and heat entry. Painting the unit can block these vents and impair its functionality. The device is marked with "DO NOT PAINT".
  • Regular Testing: Test the alarm monthly to ensure proper operation.
  • Alarm Response: If the alarm sounds, evacuate all occupants immediately and call emergency services. Do not re-enter the premises until authorities declare it safe.
  • Battery: The battery is sealed and non-removable. Do not attempt to replace it. The unit should be replaced after 10 years of operation or when the low battery warning sounds.

  • Jemay 2-in-1 Smoke and Heat Detector Unit (2 units for 2-pack)
  • Mounting Bracket
  • Mounting Screws and Anchors
  • User Manual (this document)

5. Setup and Installation

The Jemay 2-in-1 Smoke and Heat Detector is designed for easy, wire-free installation.

5.1 Choosing a Location

For optimal protection, install detectors:

  • On every level of your home, including the basement.
  • Inside each bedroom.
  • Outside each sleeping area.
  • In hallways or common areas.

Avoid installation in:

  • Areas with high humidity (e.g., bathrooms, laundry rooms).
  • Near cooking appliances or fireplaces (to prevent false alarms).
  • Direct sunlight or near air vents.
  • Areas with extreme temperatures (below 0°C or above 40°C).

5.2 Mounting the Detector

  1. Select a suitable mounting location on a ceiling or wall, away from corners and obstructions.
  2. Use the mounting bracket as a template to mark the positions for the two screw holes.
  3. Drill two holes at the marked positions. Insert the plastic anchors if mounting into drywall or plaster.
  4. Secure the mounting bracket to the ceiling or wall using the provided screws.
  5. Align the detector with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it clicks securely into place. The unit will automatically activate upon proper installation.

6. Operation

6.1 Initial Power-On

The detector automatically powers on when correctly attached to its mounting bracket. The LED indicator will flash green periodically to confirm normal operation.

6.2 Testing the Alarm

Test the alarm immediately after installation and monthly thereafter. To test:

  • Press and hold the Test/Silence button located on the center of the detector.
  • The alarm will sound a loud, pulsating siren, and the red LED will flash.
  • Release the button. The alarm will stop, and the LED will return to its normal green flash.

6.3 Alarm Indication

  • Smoke/Heat Alarm: When smoke or excessive heat is detected, the alarm will emit a loud, continuous siren (over 85dB) and the red LED will flash rapidly.
  • Normal Operation: The green LED will flash approximately once every 60 seconds to indicate that the unit is functioning correctly.
  • Low Battery Warning: The unit will chirp periodically and the red LED will flash to indicate a low battery. Since the battery is sealed, the entire unit must be replaced.

6.4 Silencing the Alarm

In case of a non-emergency alarm (e.g., cooking fumes), you can temporarily silence the alarm:

  • Press the Test/Silence button once.
  • The alarm will silence for approximately 9 minutes. The red LED will continue to flash every 10 seconds during the silence period.
  • If the smoke or heat concentration remains high after the silence period, the alarm will reactivate.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and proper functioning of your detector.

  • Monthly Testing: Test the alarm monthly by pressing the Test/Silence button.
  • Cleaning: Dust and debris can affect the detector's sensitivity. Gently vacuum the vents around the detector or wipe with a soft, damp cloth at least once a year. Do not use cleaning sprays or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: The 10-year battery is sealed and non-replaceable. When the low battery warning sounds, the entire unit must be replaced.
  • End of Life: The detector has a service life of 10 years. After 10 years from the date of manufacture (indicated on the unit), the detector should be replaced, even if it appears to be functioning.

8. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your detector, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
