Cort KX Series 700 Evertune Electric Guitar User Manual

Model: KX700OPBK

Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your Cort KX Series 700 Evertune Electric Guitar. The KX Series is known for its aggressive design and advanced features, including the EverTune bridge system for superior tuning stability and Seymour Duncan pickups for a powerful sound. Please read this manual thoroughly to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your instrument.

The KX700 EverTune features a redesigned body contour, a Seymour Duncan Sentient & Nazgul Humbucker set, and the EverTune bridge system. It also includes a 5-piece Roasted Maple & Walnut neck, Ebony fingerboard, and stainless steel frets.

Setup

Initial Inspection

Upon unboxing, carefully inspect the guitar for any signs of damage. Ensure all components, such as the bridge, tuners, and electronics, are securely in place. Remove any protective films from the pickups or body.

Connecting to an Amplifier

Connect a standard 1/4" (6.35mm) instrument cable from the guitar's output jack to your amplifier's input. Ensure your amplifier is turned off or on standby before connecting or disconnecting the cable to prevent sudden loud noises.

EverTune Bridge System

The EverTune bridge system provides constant tension to each string, ensuring exceptional tuning stability. Familiarize yourself with the EverTune system's operation. Detailed instructions for setting up and adjusting the EverTune bridge are typically provided by EverTune directly or can be found on their official website. It is crucial to understand its unique tuning and intonation process.

Tuning

While the EverTune bridge maintains tuning stability, initial tuning and zone setting are required. Use a reliable electronic tuner. For standard tuning, adjust each string to its desired pitch. The EverTune system will then hold this pitch consistently. Refer to the EverTune manual for specific tuning procedures and zone adjustments.

Operating

Controls Overview

Your KX700 EverTune guitar is equipped with a 3-way pickup selector, one master volume knob, and one master tone knob.

Pickup Selector

  • Position 1 (Up): Activates the neck pickup (Seymour Duncan Sentient). Produces a warmer, smoother tone, ideal for clean passages or lead playing.
  • Position 2 (Middle): Activates both neck and bridge pickups. Offers a balanced tone, often used for rhythm playing or a fuller sound.
  • Position 3 (Down): Activates the bridge pickup (Seymour Duncan Nazgûl). Delivers a brighter, more aggressive tone, suitable for heavy riffs and cutting leads.

Volume Knob

Controls the overall output level of the guitar. Turn clockwise to increase volume, counter-clockwise to decrease.

Tone Knob

Adjusts the treble frequencies. Turn clockwise for a brighter tone, counter-clockwise for a warmer, darker tone.

Maintenance

Cleaning

  • Body: Wipe the body with a soft, lint-free cloth after each use to remove sweat and fingerprints. For deeper cleaning, use a guitar-specific polish.
  • Neck and Fretboard: The Ebony fretboard and Roasted Maple & Walnut neck should be cleaned periodically. Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe down the fretboard. For accumulated grime, a specialized fretboard cleaner can be used.
  • Strings: Wipe down strings after playing to extend their life and maintain tone.

String Replacement

Due to the EverTune bridge system, string replacement requires specific steps to maintain proper tension and intonation. Consult the EverTune manual or their online resources for the correct procedure. Incorrect string replacement can affect the bridge's functionality.

Truss Rod Adjustment

The KX700 features a Spoke Nut Hotrod Trussrod for easy neck relief adjustments. If you notice excessive fret buzz or high action, the neck relief may need adjustment. This is typically done with an Allen wrench at the base of the neck. If you are unfamiliar with this procedure, it is recommended to seek assistance from a qualified guitar technician to avoid damage.

Storage

Store your guitar in a stable environment, away from extreme temperature changes and humidity fluctuations. A guitar case provides the best protection.

Troubleshooting

No Sound or Weak Output

  • Check the instrument cable for proper connection at both the guitar and amplifier.
  • Ensure the amplifier is powered on and not on standby, with its volume turned up.
  • Verify the guitar's volume knob is turned up.
  • Test with a different cable or amplifier to isolate the problem.

Fret Buzz

  • Check your playing technique; ensure proper finger placement and pressure.
  • Inspect the neck relief. If the neck is too straight or has too much back-bow, adjust the truss rod (refer to Maintenance section or consult a technician).
  • Check string action at the bridge. The EverTune bridge allows for individual string height adjustment.

Tuning Instability (Beyond EverTune's Scope)

While the EverTune bridge provides exceptional stability, external factors can still affect tuning:

  • Ensure strings are properly stretched after installation.
  • Check for worn or improperly seated strings at the nut or bridge.
  • Verify that the EverTune system is correctly set up and in its desired zone.
  • Environmental changes (temperature/humidity) can still affect the wood, though EverTune mitigates string tension changes.

Persistent Issues

If you encounter persistent issues that cannot be resolved with the above steps, it is recommended to contact a qualified guitar technician or Cort customer support for further assistance.
