4.2 Electrical Connection
The GS2 communicates via UART. Connect the module to your host system (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Robotics Systems, Automation Systems) using the provided interface board and cable.
- Connect the YDLIDAR GS2 module to the interface board using the supplied cable.
- Connect the interface board to your host system via a USB-C or Mini-USB/Micro-USB cable.
- Ensure proper power supply. The module operates on electricity.
Refer to the official documentation and SDK for detailed pinout and communication protocols specific to your development environment.
5. Operating the YDLIDAR GS2
5.1 Basic Operation
Once connected and powered, the YDLIDAR GS2 will begin its ranging operations. The module continuously scans its environment within its 100° FOV, providing distance data.
- The module's scan frequency is 5-8Hz, and range frequency is 10-28Hz.
- Data is transmitted via the UART interface to the connected host system.
- The effective range is 25mm to 300mm, varying based on the reflectivity of detected objects.

5.2 Software Integration
To process the data from the GS2, you will need to integrate it with your software application. WayPonDEV provides an SDK and example programs to facilitate this process.
- Visit youyeetoo.com/blog/ydlidar-gs2-eadpgs2w850-131 for datasheets, developer manuals, SDKs, and example programs.
- The SDK typically includes libraries for various programming languages (e.g., C++, Python) to interface with the UART communication.
- A GUI application for Windows is available for live data display and testing.

6. Maintenance
The YDLIDAR GS2 is designed for robust operation with minimal maintenance. However, following these guidelines can help ensure its longevity and optimal performance:
- Cleaning: Periodically inspect the optical window for dust or debris. Gently clean with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
- Environmental Conditions: While dustproof and waterproof, avoid prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures or highly corrosive environments. The upper temperature rating is 40°C.
- Firmware Updates: Check the official WayPonDEV website or blog for any available firmware updates that may improve performance or add features.
- Physical Inspection: Regularly check for any loose connections or physical damage to the module or cables.
7. Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with the YDLIDAR GS2.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No data output from module. | Incorrect wiring; Power supply issue; Driver not installed; Incorrect serial port settings. | Verify all connections are secure. Check power supply. Install necessary USB-to-serial drivers. Confirm baud rate and other serial settings match the module's requirements (refer to datasheet). |
| Inaccurate or noisy readings. | Environmental interference (e.g., strong light, reflective surfaces); Obstruction of the optical window; Module not stable. | Ensure the optical window is clean. Minimize strong light sources directly impacting the sensor. Ensure the module is securely mounted and not vibrating. Implement software filtering for noise reduction. |
| Module not recognized by host system. | USB cable issue; Driver not installed or corrupted; Interface board malfunction. | Try a different USB cable and port. Reinstall the USB-to-serial drivers. Test the interface board with another device if possible. |
