2. Important Safety Information

Please read and understand all instructions before installing and operating your detector. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • DANGER: If the alarm sounds and it is not being tested, it indicates the unit is sensing smoke or carbon monoxide. The sound of the alarm requires your immediate attention and action. Do not ignore the alarm.
  • This detector is designed for residential use only. It is not intended for industrial or commercial applications.
  • Do not paint the detector. Paint can clog the sensor openings and interfere with the unit's ability to detect smoke or CO.
  • Do not install the detector in areas with high humidity, extreme temperatures, or excessive dust/dirt, as this can affect performance.
  • Ensure the detector is installed in accordance with local building codes and regulations.

3. Product Features

The Jemay Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector offers advanced features for reliable home safety:

  • 10-Year Battery Life: Equipped with a built-in 3V lithium battery, ensuring continuous operation for up to 10 years without battery replacement, promoting energy efficiency and environmental protection.
  • Dual Sensor Technology: Integrates a photoelectric smoke sensor for detecting both fast and slow-burning fires, and an electrochemical CO sensor for accurate carbon monoxide detection.
  • Test/Silence Button: Allows for monthly testing of the unit's electronic circuitry, horn, and battery functions. Also enables silencing of false alarms.
  • LED Indicators: Features a large LED circle that changes color to indicate operational status (Green for normal, Red for emergency) and low battery warnings.
  • Loud Alarm: Produces an alarm signal greater than 85dB(A) at 3 meters, designed to be easily heard throughout the home, even by those sleeping.
  • Easy Installation: Designed for simple ceiling or wall mounting with included screws and mounting bracket, requiring no wiring.

4. Package Contents

Your Jemay Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector package includes:

  • 5 x Jemay Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms (Model GS883-A)
  • 1 x User Manual
  • 5 x Screw Sets (2 screws per set for mounting)

5. Setup and Installation

The Jemay detector is designed for easy installation without the need for complex wiring.

5.1 Choosing an Installation Location

For optimal protection, consider the following guidelines for placement:

  • Install at least one detector on every level of your home, including basements and attics.
  • For best smoke detection, install detectors in hallways outside sleeping areas and in living rooms.
  • For best CO detection, install detectors near sleeping areas and on every level of the home.
  • Avoid installing in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, or near heating vents, fans, or open windows, as these areas can cause false alarms or reduce effectiveness.
  • Mount on the ceiling or high on a wall (at least 15 cm from the ceiling).

5.2 Mounting Instructions

  1. Select a suitable mounting location on the ceiling or wall.
  2. Use the mounting bracket as a template to mark the positions for the two screw holes.
  3. Drill two holes at the marked positions. Insert the plastic anchors (if necessary) into the drilled holes.
  4. Attach the mounting bracket to the ceiling/wall using the provided screws.
  5. Align the detector with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise to secure it. The safety clip feature prevents mounting if the battery is not properly installed (though this model has a built-in battery, ensure it's activated if there's a pull tab).
  6. Once mounted, perform a test as described in Section 6.1.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Testing the Detector

It is recommended to test your detector monthly to ensure proper operation.

  • Press and hold the 'TEST/SILENCE' button located in the center of the detector.
  • The alarm will sound a loud, repetitive signal (greater than 85dB(A)).
  • The LED indicator will flash during the test.
  • Release the button to stop the test.

6.2 LED Indicator Status

The large LED circle provides visual cues about the detector's status:

  • Green LED: Indicates normal operation and that the unit is receiving power.
  • Red LED: Indicates an emergency (smoke or CO detected) or a malfunction.
  • Flashing Red LED with Chirp: Indicates a low battery warning.

6.3 Silence Function

In case of a nuisance alarm (e.g., from cooking fumes), you can temporarily silence the alarm:

  • Press the 'TEST/SILENCE' button.
  • The alarm will temporarily silence for a period (typically 5-10 minutes).
  • If the smoke or CO concentration persists, the alarm will reactivate after the silence period.

6.4 CO Alarm Sensitivity

The detector conforms to EN50291-1:2010+A1:2012 standards for CO alarm sensitivity:

Table showing CO alarm sensitivity settings: 30PPM without alarm before 120 minutes, 50PPM between 60 to 90 minutes, 100PPM between 10 to 40 minutes, 300PPM less than 3 minutes.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliability of your detector.

7.1 Monthly Testing

As described in Section 6.1, test your detector monthly by pressing the 'TEST/SILENCE' button.

7.2 Cleaning Your Detector

Dust and debris can accumulate on the detector and affect its performance. Clean your detector at least once a year:

  • Gently vacuum the exterior of the detector using a soft brush attachment.
  • Do not use cleaning solvents or sprays directly on the detector.
  • Do not paint the detector.

7.3 Low Battery Warning

The detector features a low battery indicator. An intermittent 'chirp' accompanied by a red LED flash every 32 seconds indicates that the built-in battery is nearing the end of its 10-year life. When this occurs, the entire unit must be replaced.

8. Troubleshooting
