4.2 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the smoke detector.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Connect the included 9V battery to the battery clip, ensuring correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
  4. Insert the battery into the compartment.
  5. Close the battery compartment cover. The safety clip feature will prevent the unit from being mounted if the battery is not correctly installed.

4.3 Mounting Location Recommendations

For optimal protection, install smoke detectors in the following locations:

  • Install at least one smoke detector on every level of your home, including basements.
  • Install a smoke detector inside every bedroom.
  • Install a smoke detector in the hallway outside of each sleeping area.
  • Mount on the ceiling, away from corners and walls (at least 10 cm from walls).
  • Avoid installing near windows, doors, or areas with high airflow, as this can interfere with smoke detection.
  • Do not install in kitchens, bathrooms, or garages where cooking fumes, steam, or exhaust can cause false alarms.

  1. Once the battery is installed, select a suitable mounting location on the ceiling.
  2. Use the mounting bracket as a template to mark the positions for the two screw holes on the ceiling.
  3. Drill two holes at the marked positions. Insert wall plugs if necessary.
  4. Attach the mounting bracket to the ceiling using the provided screws.
  5. Align the smoke detector with the mounting bracket and twist it clockwise until it locks securely into place.
  6. Alternatively, the detector can be attached using 3CM adhesive stickers (if included in your package) for non-permanent installation. Ensure the surface is clean and dry before applying.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Initial Power-Up

After battery installation and mounting, the detector will perform a self-test. The red LED indicator will flash briefly, and you may hear a short chirp, indicating it is powered on and functioning correctly.

5.2 Testing the Detector

It is crucial to test your smoke detector weekly to ensure it is working properly.

  1. Press and hold the Test/Silence button located on the front of the detector.
  2. The alarm will sound loudly (a series of three beeps, pause, three beeps) and the red LED will flash.
  3. Release the button. The alarm should stop.
  4. If the alarm does not sound, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

5.3 Alarm Indication

When smoke is detected, the alarm will sound continuously with a loud, piercing sound (three long beeps, pause, three long beeps) and the red LED will flash rapidly. This indicates a potential fire hazard. Evacuate the premises immediately and call emergency services.

5.4 Silence Function (Hush Mode)

If a non-emergency alarm occurs (e.g., from cooking fumes), you can temporarily silence the alarm:

  1. Press the Test/Silence button once.
  2. The alarm will silence for approximately 10 minutes. The red LED will continue to flash every 10 seconds to indicate it is in hush mode.
  3. After 10 minutes, if smoke is still present, the alarm will reactivate.
  4. Do not use the silence function in a real fire emergency.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Monthly Testing

Test your smoke detector at least once a month by pressing the Test/Silence button until the alarm sounds. This confirms the battery and alarm circuit are functioning.

6.2 Battery Replacement

The detector will chirp approximately once every 30-40 seconds, accompanied by a red LED flash, to indicate a low battery. Replace the 9V battery immediately when this occurs. The battery has an estimated service life of 5 years.

  1. Twist the detector counter-clockwise to remove it from the mounting bracket.
  2. Open the battery compartment.
  3. Disconnect the old 9V battery and dispose of it responsibly.
  4. Connect a new 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  5. Close the battery compartment and reattach the detector to the mounting bracket by twisting clockwise until secure.
  6. Test the detector after replacing the battery.

6.3 Cleaning Your Smoke Detector

Dust and debris can accumulate on the smoke detector, potentially affecting its performance. Clean your detector at least once a year:

  • Gently vacuum the exterior of the detector using a soft brush attachment.
  • Wipe the cover with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning sprays or solvents.
  • Ensure no moisture enters the detector.
