4. Setup

Follow these steps for the initial setup of your espresso machine.

1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the machine from its packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
2. Initial Cleaning: Wash the water tank, drip tray, and coffee grounds container with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
3. Water Tank Filling: Fill the water tank with fresh tap water up to the MAX indication. Insert the water tank back into the machine.
4. Water Hardness Test: Use the provided water hardness test strip to determine your water hardness. This information is crucial for proper descaling intervals.
5. Bean Hopper Filling: Open the bean hopper lid and pour fresh coffee beans into the hopper. Do not overfill.

6. Power Connection: Plug the appliance into a suitable 110V grounded power outlet.
7. First Use Cycle: The machine will perform an automatic rinse cycle upon first startup or after being idle for a while. Place a cup under the coffee spout. The machine will dispense hot water. This primes the system.

5.1 Making Espresso and Coffee

1. Ensure the water tank is filled and the bean hopper contains coffee beans.
2. Place a cup under the coffee spout.
3. On the intuitive touch display, select your desired beverage (Espresso or Coffee).

4. Customize your drink:
   • Aroma Strength: Tap the coffee bean icon to cycle through 3 aroma intensity settings (mild, medium, strong).
   • Beverage Quantity: Tap the cup icon to adjust the volume of your drink (small, medium, large).
   • Grind Setting: Adjust the grind setting inside the bean hopper. There are 12 levels, from fine for strong espresso to coarse for lighter coffee. Adjust only when the grinder is operating.

5. Press the start button to begin brewing.

5.2 Using the Classic Milk Frother

The classic milk frother allows you to prepare creamy milk foam for cappuccinos and lattes.

1. Fill a milk jug with cold milk (preferably semi-skimmed or full-fat).
2. Press the 'Steam' button on the control panel. The machine will heat up.
3. Once the steam icon is steady, immerse the frother into the milk, just below the surface.
4. Open the steam valve (if applicable) or wait for steam to be dispensed. Move the jug up and down to create foam.

5. When you have enough foam, close the steam valve and remove the jug.
6. Immediately clean the frother with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.

5.3 Hot Water Function

Your machine can also dispense hot water for tea or other instant beverages.

• Place a cup under the hot water spout (usually the milk frother).
• Press the 'Hot Water' button on the control panel.
• Press the start button to dispense hot water. Press again to stop.

6. Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential for the longevity and optimal performance of your machine.

6.1 Daily Cleaning

• Drip Tray and Coffee Grounds Container: Empty and rinse daily. The machine will prompt you when the grounds container needs emptying.
• Classic Milk Frother: After each use, wipe the frother with a damp cloth. Regularly remove the outer part and rinse it under running water.

6.2 Weekly Cleaning

• Brew Group: Remove the brew group (refer to your machine's specific instructions for removal). Rinse it thoroughly under lukewarm running water. Allow it to air dry before reinserting. Lubricate the brew group regularly with the provided grease.

6.3 Descaling (Calc Clean)

The machine will indicate when descaling is required (Calc Clean light). Regular descaling prevents limescale buildup and ensures optimal performance.

• If you use an AquaClean filter, the descaling frequency will be significantly reduced.
