3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

This tool is sold as 'tool-only' and requires an M18 REDLITHIUM battery pack (sold separately).

  1. Ensure the tool is switched off.
  2. Align the battery pack with the battery port on the tool.
  3. Slide the battery pack into the tool until it latches securely in place.
  4. To remove, press the release button on the battery pack and pull it out.

3.2 Accessory Installation (Grinding/Cutting Wheels)

Always disconnect the battery pack before changing accessories.

  1. Press and hold the spindle lock button.
  2. Place the inner flange onto the spindle.
  3. Position the grinding or cutting wheel onto the inner flange, ensuring it is centered.
  4. Thread the outer flange onto the spindle and tighten it securely using the provided wrench.
  5. Release the spindle lock button.

3.3 Guard Adjustment

The tool features a tool-free guard adjustment for quick and easy positioning.

  1. Lift the guard release lever.
  2. Rotate the guard to the desired position to protect against sparks and debris.
  3. Release the lever to lock the guard in place. Ensure the guard is securely locked before operation.

3.4 Side Handle Installation

The side handle can be installed on either side of the gear housing for optimal control.

  1. Thread the side handle into one of the threaded holes on the gear housing.
  2. Tighten it securely by hand.

4. Operation

4.1 Powering On/Off

The grinder is equipped with a paddle switch for momentary operation.

  • To Turn On: Grip the tool firmly and depress the paddle switch.
  • To Turn Off: Release the paddle switch. The RAPIDSTOP Brake will engage, stopping the wheel quickly.

4.2 Grinding and Cutting Techniques

Always allow the wheel to reach full speed before contacting the workpiece.

  • Grinding: Hold the tool at a 15-30 degree angle to the workpiece. Apply moderate pressure and move the tool smoothly across the surface.
  • Cutting: Hold the tool perpendicular (90 degrees) to the workpiece. Use a light, even pressure and allow the wheel to do the work. Avoid twisting or binding the wheel.
  • Working in Tight Spaces: The flathead design allows for improved access. Position the tool to take advantage of the reduced head height when working in confined areas.

5. Maintenance
