Setup
Follow these steps to prepare your Fotorama Rummy game for play:
- Distribute Racks: Each player receives one tile rack.
- Mix Tiles: Place all 106 tiles face down on a flat surface and mix them thoroughly. These form the draw pile.
- Draw Initial Tiles: Each player draws 14 tiles from the mixed pile and places them on their rack, ensuring they are hidden from other players.
- Determine First Player: Players can draw one tile to determine who goes first; the player with the highest number starts the game.

Operating Instructions: How to Play Fotorama Rummy
The primary objective of Rummy is to be the first player to play all the tiles from your rack onto the table by forming valid sets.
Game Flow
Players take turns in a clockwise direction. Each turn consists of drawing a tile (unless you are making your initial meld) and then playing tiles from your rack.
Forming Sets
Tiles can be arranged into two types of valid sets:
- Groups (Tercias/Cuartetos): A set of three or four tiles of the same number but each of a different color. For example, three 7s (red, blue, black) or four 10s (red, blue, black, orange).
- Runs (Corridas): A set of three or more consecutive numbers of the same color. For example, red 3, 4, 5, 6.
First Meld (Going Down)
To make your first move and place tiles on the table, you must play sets from your rack that total at least 30 points. The value of each tile is its face number (e.g., a 5 is 5 points, a 13 is 13 points). Joker tiles can be used to complete sets and take on the value of the tile they represent for the purpose of reaching 30 points.
Subsequent Turns
After your first meld, on each subsequent turn, you must either:
- Draw one tile from the draw pile.
- Play new sets from your rack onto the table.
- Add tiles to existing sets already on the table (this is called "laying off").
Joker Tiles
Joker tiles are wildcards and can represent any number and color. They can be used to complete any set, whether it's a group or a run.
Winning the Game
The first player to successfully play all their tiles from their rack onto the table wins the round.
Maintenance
Proper care will extend the life of your Fotorama Rummy game:
- Storage: Always store all tiles and racks in the original box when not in use to prevent loss or damage.
- Cleaning: Clean tiles and racks with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the plastic components and printed numbers.
- Environment: Keep the game away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to prevent warping or fading of the plastic components.
Troubleshooting
Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:
- Missing Tiles: If you find tiles are missing, carefully check the game box, the playing area, and under furniture. If tiles are permanently lost, contact Fotorama customer support for assistance.
- Difficulty Understanding Rules: Re-read the "Operating Instructions" section carefully. For visual learners, searching for Rummy video tutorials online can provide additional clarity on gameplay mechanics.
