1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the assembly, operation, and maintenance of your vidaXL Gabion Raised Garden Bed Planter. Designed to create an elegant and secure border for plants and flowers, this gabion structure is made from durable galvanized steel. Please read these instructions carefully before assembly and use to ensure proper installation and longevity of your product.
Note: Stones, gravel, and plants are not included with the product and must be sourced separately.
2. Safety Information
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves) during assembly to prevent cuts or scrapes from wire edges.
- Ensure the assembly area is clear of obstructions and provides sufficient space for safe handling of components.
- When filling the gabion, distribute weight evenly to maintain stability.
- Keep children and pets away from the assembly area.
- Do not climb on or lean heavily on the gabion structure, especially before it is fully assembled and filled.
3. Package Contents
Before beginning assembly, verify that all components are present and undamaged. The package typically includes:
- Galvanized steel mesh panels (sides, ends, and internal bracing)
- Connecting spirals or clips
- Assembly instructions
If any parts are missing or damaged, please contact vidaXL customer support.

4. Setup and Assembly
Assembly is required for this product. It is recommended to have two people for easier and more stable construction.
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging and lay them out on a clean, flat surface. Identify the side panels, end panels, and any internal bracing wires.
- Form the Base: Connect the bottom edges of the side and end panels using the provided spirals or clips to form the rectangular base of the gabion. Ensure all connections are secure.
- Erect the Walls: Bring the vertical edges of the panels together and secure them using the spirals or clips. Work your way around the perimeter, ensuring the structure is upright and square.
- Install Internal Bracing: For larger gabions, internal bracing wires are crucial for maintaining shape and stability once filled. Attach these wires across the width of the gabion at regular intervals, as indicated in the assembly diagram. These wires prevent the sides from bulging outwards.
- Final Checks: Once all panels are connected and bracing is in place, gently shake the structure to ensure it is stable. All connections should be tight.

5. Operating Instructions
Once assembled, your gabion raised bed is ready for filling and planting.
- Positioning: Place the assembled gabion in its desired location. Ensure the ground is level and stable to prevent shifting.
- Filling the Gabion: Begin filling the gabion with rocks, gravel, or other suitable inert material. For optimal stability and aesthetic appeal, use stones of varying sizes that are larger than the mesh openings (10 x 5 cm). Fill gradually and evenly to maintain the structure's shape.
- Adding Soil and Plants: Once the gabion is filled with stones to the desired height, you can add a layer of landscape fabric to prevent soil from washing out, then fill the internal space with suitable potting soil. Plant your desired flowers, herbs, or vegetables.

6. Maintenance
The vidaXL Gabion Raised Garden Bed is constructed from galvanized steel, offering excellent resistance to rust and weathering. Minimal maintenance is required.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior mesh with water and a soft brush to remove dirt or debris. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the galvanized coating.
- Inspection: Annually inspect the gabion for any signs of damage, loose connections, or shifting of the internal fill material. Re-secure connections or replenish fill as needed.
- Drainage: Ensure proper drainage around the base of the gabion to prevent water accumulation, which could affect the surrounding area.
7. Troubleshooting
Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:
- Issue: The gabion feels wobbly after assembly.
Solution: Ensure all connecting spirals/clips are tightly secured. Verify that internal bracing wires are correctly installed and taut. The structure gains significant stability once filled with heavy material like rocks or gravel. - Issue: Sides are bulging after filling.
Solution: This indicates insufficient or improperly installed internal bracing. If possible, remove some fill, install additional bracing wires, and then refill. Ensure the fill material is distributed evenly. - Issue: Rust spots appear.
Solution: While galvanized steel is rust-resistant, prolonged exposure to highly corrosive substances or physical damage to the coating can lead to rust. Clean the area, gently sand any rust, and apply a cold galvanizing compound or rust-inhibiting paint for repair.
