1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the proper use and maintenance of your shrxy Scuba Metal Detector. Designed for both land and underwater use, this device features pulse induction technology for accurate detection of metallic objects. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

2. Setup

2.1 Package Contents

2.2 Battery Installation

The device requires a 9V battery for operation. To install the battery:

1. Unscrew the cap at the end of the handle.
2. Connect a fresh 9V battery to the battery connector inside the compartment.
3. Carefully insert the battery into the compartment.
4. Screw the cap back on tightly to ensure a waterproof seal. Improper sealing can lead to water damage.

2.3 Assembly and Disassembly

The shrxy Scuba Metal Detector can be easily assembled and disassembled for portability or to switch between its two main configurations: a dive detector with a search coil or a pinpointer. The device features a quick-release mechanism to swap the search coil with a pinpointer tip (pinpointer tip not included in this specific model, but the functionality for interchangeability is present).

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Power On/Off

To power on the device, press and hold the power button located on the handle until the indicator light illuminates and you hear an audible signal or feel a vibration. To power off, press and hold the power button again until the device shuts down.

3.2 Detection Modes

The shrxy detector indicates the presence of metal objects through both audible and vibrating alarms. The intensity of these alarms increases as the device moves closer to the metallic target, providing precise localization.

3.3 LED Flashlight

An integrated LED flashlight assists in dark and low-light conditions, enhancing visibility during detection, especially underwater or in dimly lit environments.

3.4 Underwater Operation

The device has a diving standard waterproof rating, allowing it to be operated underwater up to 20 meters. Before submerging, ensure the battery compartment cap is securely tightened to prevent water ingress. If transitioning from land to water use, or during normal operation, it is recommended to turn off the detector and reset it to avoid false signals.

3.5 Detection Performance

The 4.7"x3" spade-shaped coil is effective in detecting even small metallic objects and can be used for deep detection in stone cracks and underground crevices. The detection distance varies based on the size and type of metal. For example, a US Quarter can be detected at approximately 4 inches (10 cm) when facing the coil, and 2.5 inches (6 cm) when on its side.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

After use, especially in saltwater or dirty conditions, the detector can be washed under running water. Ensure all external surfaces are clean and free of debris.

4.2 Battery Care

Always ensure the battery compartment is completely dry before installing a new battery. If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage and corrosion.

4.3 Storage

Store the detector in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. The device's durability, based on STD 81F, ensures years of reliable operation with proper care.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 False Signals or Erratic Behavior

If the detector produces false signals or behaves erratically, turn off the device and then turn it back on to reset its internal calibration. This is particularly important when transitioning between different environments (e.g., land to water).

5.2 Water Ingress

If water enters the battery compartment, immediately remove the battery and allow the compartment to dry completely. Ensure the O-ring seals are clean and properly seated before reassembling and using the device in wet conditions. Water damage due to improper sealing is not covered by warranty.
