1. Introduction

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The multimeter requires batteries for operation. To install or replace batteries:

  1. Ensure the multimeter is powered off and disconnect all test leads.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  3. Use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment.
  4. Insert new batteries, observing correct polarity (+/-).
  5. Securely close the battery compartment cover.

4.2 Connecting Test Leads

Always connect the black test lead to the 'COM' (common) jack. Connect the red test lead to the appropriate input jack based on the desired measurement:

  • For Voltage, Resistance, Diode, Continuity, Capacitance, Frequency, Duty Cycle, and Temperature measurements: Connect the red lead to the 'VΩmA' jack.
  • For Current measurements (up to 600mA): Connect the red lead to the 'VΩmA' jack.
  • For High Current measurements (up to 20A): Connect the red lead to the '20A MAX' jack.

5. Operating Instructions

Turn the rotary dial to select the desired measurement function. The multimeter is auto-ranging, simplifying operation.

5.1 DC/AC Voltage Measurement (V= / V~)

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'V=' or 'V~' position.
  2. Connect the black test lead to 'COM' and the red test lead to 'VΩmA'.
  3. Connect the test probes across the component or circuit to be measured.
  4. Read the voltage value on the LCD display.

5.2 DC/AC Current Measurement (A= / A~)

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'A=' or 'A~' position. Use the 'SEL' button to switch between DC and AC if needed.
  2. Connect the black test lead to 'COM'. Connect the red test lead to 'VΩmA' for currents up to 600mA, or to '20A MAX' for currents up to 20A.
  3. Open the circuit and connect the multimeter in series with the load.
  4. Read the current value on the LCD display.

5.3 Resistance Measurement (Ω)

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'Ω' position.
  2. Connect the black test lead to 'COM' and the red test lead to 'VΩmA'.
  3. Ensure the circuit or component is de-energized. Connect the test probes across the component.
  4. Read the resistance value on the LCD display.

5.4 Continuity Test

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'Ω' position and press 'SEL' until the continuity symbol (speaker icon) appears.
  2. Connect the black test lead to 'COM' and the red test lead to 'VΩmA'.
  3. Connect the test probes across the circuit or component.
  4. A continuous beep indicates continuity (low resistance).

5.5 Diode Test

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'Ω' position and press 'SEL' until the diode symbol appears.
  2. Connect the black test lead to 'COM' and the red test lead to 'VΩmA'.
  3. Connect the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode.
  4. Read the forward voltage drop. Reverse the probes; an open circuit reading indicates a good diode.

5.6 Capacitance Measurement

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'Capacitance' position.
  2. Connect the black test lead to 'COM' and the red test lead to 'VΩmA'.
  3. Ensure the capacitor is fully discharged before connecting the probes.
  4. Connect the test probes across the capacitor.
  5. Read the capacitance value on the LCD display.

5.7 Frequency/Duty Cycle Measurement (Hz)

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'Hz' position. Use 'SEL' to switch between frequency and duty cycle.
  2. Connect the black test lead to 'COM' and the red test lead to 'VΩmA'.
  3. Connect the test probes across the signal source.
  4. Read the frequency or duty cycle value on the LCD display.

5.8 Temperature Measurement (°C/°F)

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'Temperature' position. Use 'SEL' to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
  2. Connect the temperature probe to the 'COM' and 'VΩmA' jacks, observing polarity.
  3. Place the tip of the temperature probe on or near the object to be measured.
  4. Read the temperature value on the LCD display.

5.9 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'NCV' position.
  2. Move the NCV sensing area of the multimeter close to the conductor being tested.
  3. The multimeter will emit an audible beep and the NCV indicator light will flash, with increasing frequency as it gets closer to a live voltage source.

5.10 Live Wire Detection (NL)

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'Live' position.
  2. Connect the red test lead to the 'VΩmA' jack and hold the black test lead in the air (or connect to COM if preferred).
  3. Touch the red probe to the suspected live wire. The display will show 'LIVE' and an audible alarm will sound if a live wire is detected.

5.11 Transistor hFE Test

  1. Set the rotary dial to the 'hFE' position.
  2. Identify the Emitter (E), Base (B), and Collector (C) terminals of the transistor.
  3. Insert the transistor leads into the corresponding holes in the transistor measurement jack (PNP or NPN).
  4. Read the hFE value on the LCD display.

5.12 Special Functions

  • HOLD: Press the 'HOLD' button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
  • REL (Relative Measurement): Press the 'SEL' button (if it also functions as REL) to store the current reading as a reference. Subsequent measurements will show the difference from this reference. Press again to exit.
  • Backlight: The display backlight can be activated for better visibility in low-light conditions. Refer to the device for specific button combination (often a long press of HOLD or a dedicated button).
  • Flashlight: Press the 'HOLD' button (long press) to turn the built-in flashlight on or off.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the input jacks free from dust and debris.

6.2 Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in Section 4.1. Use the specified battery type.

6.3 Fuse Replacement

If the current measurement function stops working, the fuse may need replacement. Refer to the specifications for the correct fuse type and rating. Fuse replacement should only be performed by qualified personnel.

  1. Ensure the multimeter is powered off and all test leads are disconnected.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover. The fuse compartment is usually located near the battery.
  3. Carefully remove the old fuse and replace it with a new one of the identical type and rating.
  4. Securely close the compartment covers.

6.4 Test Lead Care

Inspect test leads for damage (cuts, cracks, exposed insulation) before each use. Replace damaged leads immediately to prevent electric shock.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No display or faint display: Check battery installation. Replace batteries if low battery indicator is on or display is dim.
  • Incorrect readings: Ensure correct function is selected and test leads are connected to the appropriate jacks. Check for damaged test leads.
  • Current measurement not working: Check the fuse. Replace if blown (refer to Section 6.3).
  • Continuity test not beeping: Ensure the function is correctly selected. Check for open circuit or high resistance.
  • NCV not detecting: Ensure the NCV function is selected. The NCV sensor needs to be close to a live AC voltage source.
