Installation Instructions

Follow these steps to safely replace the components in your Charbroil gas grill:

  1. Safety First: Ensure your grill is completely cool and disconnected from its gas supply (propane tank or natural gas line) before beginning any work. Wear appropriate safety gloves to protect your hands.
  2. Remove Cooking Grates and Heat Tents: Carefully lift out the cooking grates and warming rack. Then, remove the old heat tents (also known as flame tamers or heat shields).
  3. Remove Old Burners and Carryover Tubes: Disconnect the carryover tubes that link the burners. Carefully lift out the old burners from their positions. Note how they are seated in the gas valve orifices and secured at the back of the firebox.
  4. Clean the Firebox: While the grill is disassembled, take the opportunity to clean out any debris, grease, or rust from the firebox. This will improve grill performance and longevity.
  5. Install New Burners: Carefully place the new burners into position. Ensure the burner's gas inlet end properly seats over the gas valve orifice. Secure the rear of the burner if your grill model requires it.
  6. Install New Carryover Tubes: Attach the new adjustable carryover tubes between the burners. These tubes ensure the flame spreads evenly across all burners.
  7. Close-up view of the ends of a grill burner, showing the gas inlet and mounting tab.

  8. Install New Heat Tents: Place the new porcelain steel heat tents over the burners. Ensure they are correctly positioned to protect the burners and vaporize drippings for flavor.

  10. Reinstall Cooking Grates: Place the cooking grates and warming rack back into their original positions.
  11. Leak Test and Initial Burn-Off: Reconnect the gas supply. Perform a leak test using a soapy water solution on all gas connections. If no leaks are detected, light the grill on high for 10-15 minutes to burn off any manufacturing residues.

Operating

After successful installation and initial burn-off, operate your grill as per your original grill manufacturer's instructions. The new components should provide improved heat distribution and cooking efficiency.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps extend the life of your grill and its components:

  • Clean Heat Tents: After each use, once the grill has cooled, scrape off any food residue from the heat tents. Periodically remove and wash them with warm soapy water.
  • Inspect Burners: Regularly check burner ports for blockages (e.g., from food debris or insects). Use a wire brush or a stiff wire to clear any obstructions.
  • Clean Carryover Tubes: Ensure carryover tubes are free of blockages to allow proper flame transfer between burners.
  • Storage: If storing the grill for an extended period, ensure all components are clean and dry. Consider covering the grill to protect it from elements.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues after installing the replacement parts, consider the following:

  • Uneven Heating: Check if heat tents are properly seated and not warped. Ensure burner ports are clear and flames are even. Verify carryover tubes are correctly installed and not blocked.
  • Weak or Yellow Flames: This could indicate a gas flow issue. Ensure burners are correctly seated over the gas valve orifices. Check for blockages in burner tubes or gas lines. A yellow flame can also indicate insufficient air mixture; ensure air shutters (if present on your burner design) are clear.
  • Burner Not Lighting: Confirm gas supply is open. Check if the igniter is sparking correctly. Ensure the burner's gas inlet is properly aligned with the valve orifice.

For persistent issues, consult your original grill's manual or contact customer support.
