1. Introduction

3. Components

4. Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps carefully to assemble your Squid Robot. Refer to the diagrams in the included manual for visual guidance.

  1. Prepare the Motor: Connect the motor wires to the designated terminals on the main body. Ensure correct polarity if indicated.
  2. Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the main body. Insert 2 x 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-). Close the battery cover securely with a screw.
  3. Attach Tentacles: Secure the green rubber tentacles to the bottom of the main body.
  4. Assemble Legs: Insert the metal leg wires into the designated slots on the main body. Ensure they are firmly in place and can support the robot.
  5. Attach Googly Eyes: Peel the backing from the googly eyes and firmly attach them to the front of the main body.
  6. Connect Top Shell: Place the top blue shell onto the main body, aligning it correctly. Secure it with screws if necessary.
  7. Final Checks: Ensure all parts are securely fastened and there are no loose connections.

5. Operating Instructions

Once assembled and batteries are installed:

  1. Locate the ON/OFF switch on the robot's body.
  2. Place the Squid Robot on a smooth, flat surface.
  3. Flip the switch to the 'ON' position. The robot will begin to vibrate, causing its tentacles to wiggle and the robot to move across the surface.
  4. To stop the robot, flip the switch to the 'OFF' position.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the robot with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use water or cleaning solutions, as this may damage the electronic components.
  • Battery Care: Remove batteries if the robot will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Storage: Store the robot in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Robot does not move:
    • Check if the ON/OFF switch is in the 'ON' position.
    • Ensure batteries are inserted correctly with the correct polarity.
    • Replace old or depleted batteries with new ones.
    • Verify that all wires are securely connected to the motor and battery compartment.
  • Movement is weak or inconsistent:
    • Replace batteries with fresh ones.
    • Ensure the surface the robot is on is smooth and free of obstructions.
    • Check that the metal legs are not bent or obstructed, allowing for proper vibration.
  • Parts are loose or falling off:
    • Re-tighten any screws.
    • Re-attach any detached components firmly.
