Operating Instructions

Storing and Playing PS4 Games

You can play PS4 games directly from the Avolusion PRO-X USB extended storage. This helps save space on your PS5 console's internal storage for PS5 games.

Managing PS5 Games

PS5 games must be played from the console's internal SSD. However, you can move and store PS5 games on the Avolusion PRO-X when you are not actively playing them. Copying a PS5 game from USB extended storage back to the internal SSD is significantly faster than re-downloading it online, freeing up your internal SSD space.

Important: You cannot download PS5 games directly to the USB Hard Drive. They must first be downloaded to the internal SSD and then moved or copied to the USB HDD.

Diagram showing PS4 games can be stored and played directly from USB HDD, while PS5 games can only be stored on USB HDD and moved to internal SSD for play.

Maintenance

Proper care can significantly extend the lifespan of your external hard drive:

  • Power Management: Turn off the external hard drive when not in use. Continuous operation can lead to wear and heat buildup, potentially shortening its lifespan.
  • Surge Protection: Connect the hard drive to a surge protector power strip to safeguard against electrical fluctuations and power surges, especially during storms.
  • Cable Care: Ensure all cables are securely connected and free from damage. Faulty cables can lead to connectivity issues or data transfer problems.
  • Heat Dissipation: Place the drive in a well-ventilated area to allow for optimal heat dissipation. Avoid covering the drive or placing it in enclosed spaces.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Avolusion PRO-X, consider the following:

  • Drive Not Recognized:
    • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected and the drive is powered on.
    • Verify the USB cable is properly connected to both the drive and the console. Try a different USB port on the console.
    • If the drive was previously used with another device or is experiencing issues, it might require reformatting. Go to your console's Storage settings, select USB Extended Storage, and look for an option to format. Note: Formatting will erase all data on the drive.
  • Slow Performance:
    • Ensure you are using a USB 3.0 port on your console for optimal speed.
    • Avoid running multiple demanding applications or transfers simultaneously.
  • Overheating:
    • Ensure the drive is in a well-ventilated area.
    • If the power supply feels excessively hot, consider replacing it with a compatible one.
