Setup

This section guides you through the initial setup of your Casiotone CT-S1 keyboard and its accessories.

1. Unpacking and Component Check

Carefully remove all items from the packaging. Verify that all components are present:

2. Assembling the Keyboard Stand

The X-style keyboard stand is designed for quick assembly and stability.

  1. Unfold the stand by pulling the two main sections apart until the cross-braces lock into place.
  2. Adjust the height using the quick-release lever or pin mechanism. Ensure both sides are set to the same height for stability.
  3. Place the keyboard securely on the top arms of the stand. Ensure the rubber caps on the stand arms prevent the keyboard from slipping.

3. Connecting the Sustain Pedal

The sustain pedal enhances your playing by allowing notes to ring out longer.

  • Locate the "PEDAL" jack on the rear panel of the CT-S1 keyboard.
  • Insert the plug of the sustain pedal cable firmly into this jack.
  • Place the pedal on the floor in a comfortable position for your foot.

4. Connecting the Headphones

Use the included studio monitor headphones for private practice.

  • Locate the "PHONES/OUTPUT" jack (3.5mm stereo mini jack) on the rear panel of the CT-S1 keyboard.
  • Plug the headphones into this jack. Sound will be routed to the headphones and the internal speakers will be muted.

5. Powering On the Keyboard

The CT-S1 can be powered by the included AC adapter or by 6 AA batteries (not included).

  • Using AC Adapter: Connect the AC adapter to the "DC 9.5V" jack on the rear of the keyboard, then plug the adapter into a standard wall outlet.
  • Using Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the keyboard and insert 6 AA-size alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  • Press the POWER button located on the top panel of the keyboard to turn it on.

1. Volume Control

Adjust the overall output volume using the VOLUME knob located on the left side of the top panel. Turn clockwise to increase volume, counter-clockwise to decrease.

2. Tone Selection

The CT-S1 features 61 studio-quality tones. To select a tone:

  • Press the TONE button.
  • Use the number buttons or the +/- buttons to navigate through the tone list.
  • Refer to the Tone List in the separate Casio documentation for a complete list of available sounds.

3. Metronome Function

The built-in metronome helps you practice with accurate timing.

  • Press the METRONOME button to turn the metronome on or off.
  • To adjust the tempo, hold down the METRONOME button and use the +/- buttons.

4. Recording Your Performance

The CT-S1 includes a simple one-button recorder for capturing your musical ideas.

  • Press the REC button to start recording. The indicator will light up.
  • Play your desired piece.
  • Press the REC button again to stop recording.
  • Press the PLAY button to listen to your recorded performance.

5. MIDI Connectivity

The CT-S1 supports MIDI over USB, allowing connection to a computer or other MIDI devices.

  • Connect a USB cable (Type B) from the keyboard's USB port to your computer's USB port.
  • The keyboard will be recognized as a MIDI device, enabling use with music production software.

Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life and performance of your Casiotone CT-S1.

1. Cleaning

  • Wipe the keyboard and accessories with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water and a mild, neutral detergent, then wipe dry immediately.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or alcohol, as these can damage the finish.

2. Storage

  • Store the keyboard in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
  • If storing for an extended period, remove batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Avoid placing heavy objects on the keyboard.
