Safety Instructions

Always observe basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Work Area Safety: Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
  • Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Personal Safety: Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source, picking up or carrying the tool.
  • Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. Use the power tool, accessories, and tool bits etc., in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

  • Chuck: Holds the drill bit securely. This model features a 1/2 inch keyed metal chuck.
  • Chuck Key: Used to tighten and loosen the chuck for bit changes.
  • Auxiliary Handle: Provides additional grip and control, adjustable 360 degrees.
  • Depth Gauge: Used to set the desired drilling depth.
  • Mode Selector Switch: Allows switching between drill mode and hammer drill mode.
  • Variable Speed Trigger: Controls the rotational speed of the drill.
  • Lock-on Button: Locks the trigger for continuous operation.
  • Forward/Reverse Switch: Changes the direction of rotation.

Setup

Attaching the Auxiliary Handle

The auxiliary handle provides stability and control during operation. It can be rotated 360 degrees for optimal positioning.

  1. Loosen the auxiliary handle by rotating its grip counter-clockwise.
  2. Slide the handle onto the front of the drill body, behind the chuck.
  3. Rotate the handle to the desired position.
  4. Tighten the handle by rotating its grip clockwise until secure.

Inserting and Removing Drill Bits (Keyed Chuck)

Always ensure the drill is unplugged from the power source before changing bits.

  1. Insert the chuck key into one of the holes on the chuck.
  2. Rotate the chuck key counter-clockwise to open the chuck jaws wide enough to insert the drill bit.
  3. Insert the drill bit fully into the chuck, ensuring it is centered.
  4. Rotate the chuck key clockwise to tighten the chuck jaws firmly around the drill bit. Use all three holes on the chuck for even tightening to prevent the bit from slipping.
  5. To remove the bit, reverse the process: insert the chuck key, rotate counter-clockwise to loosen, and pull the bit out.

Adjusting the Depth Gauge

The depth gauge allows you to drill holes to a consistent, predetermined depth.

  1. Insert the depth gauge rod through the hole in the auxiliary handle.
  2. Adjust the rod so that the tip of the drill bit extends beyond the end of the rod by the desired drilling depth.
  3. Tighten the auxiliary handle to secure the depth gauge in place.

Operating Instructions

Powering On/Off

To start the drill, press the variable speed trigger. To stop, release the trigger.

Switching Between Hammer and Drill Functions

The GALAX PRO Hammer Drill offers two primary functions: standard drilling and hammer drilling. Select the appropriate mode using the green dual-mode selector switch located on top of the drill.

  • Drill Mode (for wood, metal, plastic): Position the selector switch to the drill icon. In this mode, the drill rotates without the hammering action.
  • Hammer Drill Mode (for masonry, concrete, brick): Position the selector switch to the hammer icon. In this mode, the drill rotates and simultaneously provides a hammering action, which is essential for drilling into hard materials.

The switch clearly indicates two functions: 'SCREW EXTRACTOR' (representing the hammer drill mode for tough materials) and 'ELECTRIC DRILL' (for standard drilling in wood, metal, or plastic). This highlights the tool's versatility.

Variable Speed Control

The drill features 12 adjustable speeds, allowing you to match the speed to the material and application. The speed is controlled by the pressure applied to the trigger.

  • Lower Speeds: Ideal for starting holes, drilling into softer materials, or driving screws.
  • Higher Speeds: Suitable for drilling into harder materials or for applications requiring faster material removal.

Forward/Reverse Button

The forward/reverse button is located above the trigger and allows you to change the direction of the drill's rotation.

  • Forward (Clockwise): For drilling and driving screws.
  • Reverse (Counter-clockwise): For removing screws or backing out drill bits.

Lock-on Button

For continuous operation, press the lock-on button while the trigger is depressed. To release, press the trigger again.
