1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the LA Ornamental LA500PKGU 24VDC Residential/Light Commercial Swing Gate Dual Linear Actuator Kit. This kit is designed for ornamental or large swing gates and rural gate applications, offering reliable and secure gate automation.

2. Safety Information

Read and understand all instructions before installation and operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or property damage. Keep this manual for future reference.

• Ensure all electrical connections are made by a qualified electrician and comply with local codes.
• Disconnect power before performing any service or maintenance.
• Keep hands and clothing clear of the gate and moving parts.
• Do not allow children to operate the gate opener or play near the gate.
• Install the photo eye (LMRRU) to prevent the gate from closing on obstructions.
• Ensure the gate is properly balanced and in good working condition before installing the opener.

3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your gate opener system. Refer to the detailed installation guides provided with each component for specific instructions.

3.1 Actuator Mounting

Mount the dual linear actuators securely to the gate and gate posts. Ensure proper alignment to allow for smooth gate movement. The actuators feature a Commercial-Duty Cast Aluminum Housing with Heavy-Duty DC Motor.

3.2 Electrical Connections

Connect the 24VDC power supply to the control board. Wire the actuators, photo eye, and other accessories according to the wiring diagrams in the main control board manual. This system includes a battery backup capability.

3.3 Photo Eye (LMRRU) Installation

Install the LMRRU Retro-Reflective Photo Eye and Reflector at the appropriate height and distance to detect obstructions in the gate's path. This is a critical safety device.

3.4 Pedestal and Keypad Installation

Mount the Aluminum 42" Gooseneck Pedestal in a suitable location for vehicle access. Install the KPW5 Wireless Keypad (Security+ 2.0 compatible) onto the pedestal for secure access control.

3.5 Remote (811LM) and Gateway (828LM) Pairing

Follow the instructions in the control board manual to program the two 811LM Remotes and connect the 828LM Gateway for remote monitoring and control capabilities.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Standard Operation

The gate can be operated using the 811LM remotes or the KPW5 wireless keypad. Pressing the designated button on the remote or entering the correct code on the keypad will activate the gate.

• The system features Soft Start/Stop and Mid-Travel Reversal to extend operator and hardware life.
• An Inherent Reversing Sensor detects obstructions or increased loads, reversing the gate when closing or stopping/reversing when opening.
• Quick Close/Anti-Tailgate functionality quickly secures property, preventing unauthorized access.

4.2 Manual Disconnect

In case of power failure or emergency, the actuators can be manually disconnected. Locate the keyed manual disconnect mechanism on each actuator. When unlocked, this allows the gate to be operated manually.

4.3 828LM Gateway Functionality

The 828LM Gateway allows for remote monitoring and control of your gate opener via a compatible smart device application. Refer to the 828LM manual for setup and usage details.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your gate opener system.

• Lubrication: The drive system features a Moleculary Bonded Coating and never needs lubrication.
• Inspection: Periodically inspect all mounting hardware, electrical connections, and safety devices (photo eye) for wear or damage.
• Cleaning: Keep the photo eye lenses clean and free from obstructions.
• Battery Backup: Check the status of the backup battery regularly to ensure it is charged and functional.

6. Troubleshooting

If your gate opener is not functioning correctly, refer to the following common issues and solutions. For more complex problems, consult a qualified technician.

• Gate not responding to remote/keypad: Check battery in remote/keypad. Ensure power is supplied to the opener. Verify remote/keypad is properly programmed.
• Gate stops or reverses unexpectedly: Check for obstructions in the gate's path. Ensure the photo eye is clean and properly aligned. Adjust sensitivity settings if necessary (refer to control board manual).
• No power to opener: Check circuit breaker. Verify power connections. Ensure battery backup is charged if primary power is out.
• Gate moves slowly or with difficulty: Inspect gate hinges and wheels for binding. Ensure actuators are properly mounted and aligned.

7. Specifications

The system also includes Surge Suppression for industrial surge and lightning protection against strikes up to 50 feet away.
