This steam ironing station is designed to provide powerful steam for efficient ironing of various fabric types, including delicate garments, without the need for temperature adjustment.

2. Important Safety Information

Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.

• Do not immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid.
• Ensure the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage before you connect the appliance.
• Do not use the appliance if the plug, the mains cord, or the appliance itself shows visible damage, or if the appliance has been dropped.
• Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children.
• Never leave the appliance unattended when it is connected to the mains.
• Always place the steam ironing station on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface.
• The soleplate of the iron can become extremely hot and may cause burns if touched.

4. Setup and First Use

1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the appliance from its packaging. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport.
2. Positioning: Place the steam ironing station on a stable, flat, and heat-resistant ironing board or surface. Ensure there is enough space around the unit for safe operation.
3. Filling the Water Tank:
   • Remove the detachable water tank from the base unit.
   • Fill the water tank with tap water up to the 'MAX' indication. Distilled or demineralized water is recommended to prolong the appliance's lifespan, especially in areas with hard water.
   • Reinsert the water tank into the base unit until it clicks into place.
4. Connecting to Power: Plug the mains cord into a grounded wall socket. The power light will start blinking, indicating the appliance is heating up.
5. Heating Up: Wait for the power light to stop blinking and remain continuously lit. This indicates the appliance has reached the optimal ironing temperature and is ready for use. This typically takes approximately 2 minutes.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Ironing without Temperature Adjustment

The Philips PerfectCare Compact Essential features OptimalTEMP technology, allowing you to iron all ironable fabrics from denim to silk without temperature adjustment and without the risk of burning. This eliminates the need to pre-sort laundry or wait for the iron to heat up or cool down.

5.2 Using Steam

For effective wrinkle removal, press and hold the steam trigger located on the underside of the iron handle. Steam will be continuously released from the soleplate.

• Continuous Steam: Press and hold the steam trigger for a continuous flow of steam.
• Steam Boost: For stubborn creases, press the steam trigger twice quickly for an extra burst of steam.
• Vertical Steaming: The iron can also be used for vertical steaming of hanging garments, curtains, or delicate items. Hold the iron vertically and press the steam trigger.

5.3 Auto Shut-Off

For safety and energy saving, the appliance will automatically switch off if it has not been used for a certain period. The power light will go out. To switch the appliance on again, press the power button.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

6.1 Cleaning the Soleplate

To keep the soleplate clean and ensure smooth gliding, wipe it with a damp cloth after each use, once the iron has cooled down. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or harsh cleaners.

6.2 Descaling (Calc-Clean)

Regular descaling is crucial to maintain optimal steam performance and prolong the lifespan of your appliance. The Calc-Clean light will blink to remind you to perform the descaling process.

1. Ensure the appliance is cool and unplugged.
2. Remove the water tank.
3. Place the Calc-Clean container (if supplied, otherwise a suitable bowl) on the floor or a table.
4. Place the iron on the Calc-Clean container.
5. Press and hold the Calc-Clean button for 2 seconds until you hear short beeps.
6. The descaling process will start automatically and take approximately 2 minutes. You will hear beeping sounds and see steam and hot water coming out of the soleplate.
7. When the process is complete, the iron stops beeping and the Calc-Clean light stops blinking.
8. Wipe the soleplate with a cloth.

6.3 Storage

After use, unplug the appliance and allow it to cool down completely. Empty the water tank. You can secure the iron to the base unit for easy carrying and storage. Store the appliance in a dry, safe place.
