3. Setup

3.1 Assembly

  1. Attach the search coil to the lower stem.
  2. Connect the lower stem to the middle stem.
  3. Connect the middle stem to the upper stem, which includes the control unit and armrest.
  4. Secure all connections firmly.
  5. Adjust the shaft length to a comfortable height using the adjustment mechanism.

3.2 Battery Installation

The Denver MET-110 requires two (2) 9V batteries (not included).

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the control unit.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert two 9V batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: Always use fresh batteries for optimal performance. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

  • To power on, rotate the POWER OFF knob clockwise.
  • To power off, rotate the POWER OFF knob counter-clockwise until it clicks.

4.2 Adjustments

  • VOLUME: Adjusts the loudness of the audio signal. Rotate clockwise to increase, counter-clockwise to decrease.
  • SENS (Sensitivity): Controls the detector's sensitivity to metal objects. Higher sensitivity can detect smaller or deeper objects but may also pick up more interference. Adjust as needed for your search environment.
  • DISC (Discrimination): Allows the detector to ignore certain types of metal (e.g., iron) and focus on others. Rotate the DISC knob to set the discrimination level.
  • ALL METAL: When selected, the detector will respond to all types of metal without discrimination.

4.3 Target Indication

  • When a metal object is detected, the target indicator meter on the control panel will move.
  • Simultaneously, an audible signal will be emitted. The pitch or intensity of the sound may vary depending on the type and size of the metal.
  • The LOW BAT indicator will illuminate when the batteries are low and need replacement.

4.4 Using Headphones

For improved audio clarity and to conserve battery life, you can connect headphones (not included) to the EAR jack on the control panel.

4.5 Searching Tips

  • Sweep the search coil slowly and steadily from side to side, keeping it parallel to the ground.
  • Overlap each sweep by about half the coil's diameter to ensure thorough coverage.
  • Maintain a consistent distance between the search coil and the ground.
  • The maximum effective search depth for light metals, gold, and silver is approximately 18 cm.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the detector with a damp cloth after each use, especially the search coil if used in wet or dirty conditions.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ensure the control unit remains dry. While the search coil is water-resistant, the control unit is not designed for submersion.

5.2 Storage

  • Store the metal detector in a cool, dry place.
  • Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage and damage.

5.3 Battery Care

  • Replace batteries when the LOW BAT indicator illuminates.
  • Dispose of used batteries responsibly according to local regulations.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 No Power

  • Check if batteries are correctly installed with proper polarity.
  • Replace with fresh 9V batteries.
  • Ensure the POWER OFF knob is rotated to the 'ON' position.

6.2 Erratic Signals or False Alarms

  • Reduce the SENS (Sensitivity) setting.
  • Adjust the DISC (Discrimination) setting to filter out unwanted metals or ground mineralization.
  • Ensure there are no strong electromagnetic interference sources nearby (e.g., power lines, other electronic devices).
  • Check for loose connections in the shaft assembly.

6.3 Weak or No Audio

  • Increase the VOLUME setting.
  • If using headphones, ensure they are properly plugged in and functional.
  • Check battery level; low batteries can affect audio output.
