2.2 Antenna Placement
Optimal antenna performance depends on terrain and hotspot density:
- Higher dBi (5.8dBi): Generally suitable for flat terrains and areas with lower hotspot density, providing a wider signal reach.
- General Guidelines: Mount the antenna as high as possible and in a clear line of sight to maximize signal propagation. Avoid obstructions like buildings, trees, or metal structures.
2.3 Mounting the Antenna
The antenna includes a mounting kit for secure installation. Follow these steps:
- Attach the mounting bracket to a suitable mast or pole using the U-bolts and hardware provided. Ensure the mounting surface is stable and can support the antenna.
- Securely fasten the antenna to the mounting bracket.
- Tighten all nuts and bolts to prevent movement, especially in windy conditions.

2.4 Connecting the Antenna
Connect the antenna to your Meshtastic device or Helium miner:
- Connect the N-Male connector of the antenna to the N-Female end of the 6-meter KMR195 extension cable.
- Connect the RP-SMA connector of the extension cable to your device. If your device requires an SMA Male connector, use the provided RP-SMA Female to SMA Male adapter.
- Ensure all connections are hand-tightened to establish a secure electrical contact. For outdoor installations, consider using weatherproof tape around connections to prevent moisture ingress.

4. Maintenance
The Slinkdsco fiberglass antenna is designed for durability and minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks can ensure optimal performance:
- Physical Inspection: Annually inspect the antenna and mounting hardware for any signs of physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
- Cable Integrity: Check the extension cable for cracks, fraying, or damage. Ensure all connectors remain tight and weatherproof.
- Cleaning: If necessary, gently clean the antenna with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt or debris that might accumulate over time. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
5. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your antenna, consider the following troubleshooting steps:
- Poor Signal Strength or Range:
- Verify antenna placement. Ensure it is mounted as high as possible and has a clear line of sight.
- Check for obstructions (buildings, trees) that may be blocking the signal.
- Inspect all cable connections for tightness and proper seating. Loose connections can cause significant signal loss.
- Consider the quality and length of the extension cable. Longer or lower-quality cables can introduce signal attenuation.
- No Signal:
- Ensure the antenna is correctly connected to your device.
- Confirm that your device is powered on and configured for the 915MHz frequency band.
- Check for any damage to the antenna or cable.
- Intermittent Connectivity:
- This can often be caused by loose connections or environmental factors like strong interference.
- Ensure weatherproof seals are intact to prevent moisture from affecting connections.
