Attaching the Straps and Wand
Attach the padded shoulder straps to the designated points on the sprayer body. Adjust the straps and waist strap for a secure and comfortable fit, distributing the weight evenly across your back. Connect the 20-inch poly extension wand to the poly shut-off valve. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
Operating Instructions
The Chapin 60114 is designed for efficient and versatile spraying of various liquids, including standard fertilizers, weed killers, and pesticides. Always wear safety glasses and gloves when handling chemicals.
Pumping and Pressure
To build pressure, operate the pump handle on the side of the sprayer. Continue pumping until the desired pressure is achieved. The poly shut-off features a lock-on mechanism, allowing for continuous spraying without constant gripping.
Adjusting the Nozzle
The adjustable poly-cone nozzle allows you to customize the spray pattern from a coarse stream to a fine mist. Twist the nozzle tip to achieve the desired spray for your specific application, whether it's targeting weeds or covering a broad area.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Chapin backpack sprayer.
Cleaning After Use
After each use, especially when spraying chemicals, thoroughly clean the sprayer. Rinse the tank with clean water and spray clean water through the wand and nozzle for several minutes to clear any residue. This prevents clogging and extends the life of the components.
Filtration System
The sprayer features a 3-stage filtration system with filters located in the shut-off, inside the tank, and with the cap. Regularly inspect and clean these filters to ensure proper flow and prevent blockages. The 4-inch tank opening makes accessing the in-tank filter easy.
Seal and Gasket Care
The nitrile seals are compatible with standard fertilizers, pest, and weed control products. Periodically inspect seals and gaskets for wear or damage. If a seal or gasket appears dry or cracked, it may need lubrication or replacement to prevent leaks and maintain pressure.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your sprayer, refer to the common problems and solutions below.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Sprayer leaks liquid | Loose connections, damaged seals/gaskets, or manufacturing defect in plastic. | Check and tighten all connections. Inspect nitrile seals and gaskets for wear; lubricate or replace as needed. If plastic body is damaged, contact customer support. |
| Loss of pressure or no spray | Clogged nozzle or filter, pump mechanism issue (e.g., snapped ring/collar), insufficient pumping. | Clean the nozzle and all filters (in-tank, shut-off, cap). Ensure adequate pumping. If pump components are damaged, a pump replacement kit may be needed. |
| Difficulty pumping | Dry or worn pump seals, obstruction in pump. | Lubricate pump seals. Disassemble and inspect pump for any obstructions. |
