  • Nerf Step RS Pair
  • Necessary Hardware
  • Detailed Instructions

Setup & Installation

Installation of the RealTruck Nerf Step RS is designed to be straightforward. All required mounting hardware and vehicle-specific instructions are included to ensure a smooth process.

Tools Required

  • Ratchet
  • Small Extension
  • 14mm Socket
  • 14mm Wrench

Installation Steps

  1. Preparation: Begin by positioning yourself underneath the vehicle, specifically behind the driver's side front tire. Locate the two threaded holes along the rocker panel, past the first body mount bolt. If your vehicle has factory rock rails, they must be removed first. Similarly, remove any existing plugs or bolts from these threaded locations to expose them.
  2. Install Front Bracket: Take the driver's side front bracket (which is identical to the passenger side front bracket) and align it with the two exposed threaded holes. Use two yellow zinc bolts from the kit to hand-tighten the bracket into place. Do not fully tighten at this stage to allow for minor adjustments.
  3. Install Rear Brackets: Move along the rocker panel to the second set of threaded holes. The rear brackets are identical to the front brackets. Align the rear bracket with these holes and hand-tighten two more yellow zinc bolts. Repeat this process for all remaining brackets, ensuring they are hand-tightened only.
  4. Attach Nerf Step: Carefully lift the Nerf Step and align its mounts with the installed brackets. From the bottom of each mount, insert the included carriage bolts up through the mounts and into the brackets. Secure them with serrated flange nuts on top. Start with the center mounts and work your way outwards. It is highly recommended to have a second person assist in holding the step in place during this step.
  5. Final Tightening: Once all hardware is connected and finger-tight, begin the final tightening process. First, tighten the bolts connecting the Nerf Step to the brackets using a 14mm wrench or ratchet. Then, tighten the bolts securing the brackets to the truck, also using a 14mm wrench or ratchet. For the lower bolts, an extension may be necessary. For the front bracket's upper bolt, a box-end wrench or ratcheting wrench will be most effective due to space constraints.
  6. Repeat for Opposite Side: Repeat the entire installation process for the passenger side of the vehicle.

Operating Instructions

The RealTruck Nerf Step RS is designed for immediate use upon proper installation. The expanded sure-grip drop-down steps provide a secure and stable platform for entering and exiting your vehicle. Always ensure your footing is firm on the step before applying full weight.

Maintenance

To maintain the appearance and longevity of your RealTruck Nerf Step RS, regularly clean the steps with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the textured black finish. Periodically inspect all mounting hardware for tightness and re-tighten if necessary to ensure continued safety and stability.

Troubleshooting

  • Loose Steps: If the steps feel loose or wobbly, re-check all mounting bolts and nuts. Ensure they are tightened to the recommended specifications. Over time, vibrations from driving can cause hardware to loosen.
  • Unusual Noises: Squeaking or rattling noises may indicate loose hardware or improper installation. Inspect all contact points between the steps, brackets, and vehicle frame. Tighten any loose components.
  • Difficulty Installing: If you encounter difficulty aligning holes or attaching components, double-check that you have the correct side (driver/passenger) and bracket for the specific location. Refer to the detailed instructions and ensure all factory plugs/bolts are removed.
