1. Introduction

The Sanitas SFT 79 is a multifunction thermometer designed for accurate and rapid temperature measurement. It offers three measurement modes: ear, forehead, and object/liquid temperature. The device features an optical fever alarm, 30 memory slots, and a clear illuminated display for ease of use.

• Read this instruction manual carefully before first use and keep it for future reference.

• Do not use the thermometer if the sensor is damaged.
• Keep the device out of reach of children.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
2. Slide the cover open.
3. Insert two 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

The device is now ready for use. A battery change indicator will appear on the display when batteries are low.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

Press the Power button (⑂) to turn the thermometer on. The device will perform a self-test and display the last measurement. It will automatically shut off after approximately 30 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery life.

5.2 Ear Temperature Measurement

This mode is indicated by an ear symbol on the display.

1. Ensure the thermometer is in ear measurement mode. If not, press the Mode button (M) until the ear symbol appears.
2. Gently insert the measurement sensor into the ear canal. For adults, pull the ear gently upwards and backwards. For children under one year, pull the ear straight back.
3. Press the Power button (⑂) to start the measurement.
4. The measurement will complete in a few seconds, and the temperature will be displayed. A beep will sound.
5. Remove the thermometer and read the result.

5.3 Forehead Temperature Measurement

This mode is indicated by a forehead symbol on the display. A cap with a measurement opening is included for this mode.

1. Attach the forehead measurement cap to the sensor tip.
2. Ensure the thermometer is in forehead measurement mode. If not, press the Mode button (M) until the forehead symbol appears.
3. Place the sensor tip gently on the center of the forehead.
4. Press the Power button (⑂) to start the measurement.
5. The measurement will complete in a few seconds, and the temperature will be displayed. A beep will sound. This mode is suitable for use on sleeping babies.
6. Remove the thermometer and read the result.

5.4 Object/Liquid Temperature Measurement

This mode is indicated by a baby bottle icon on the display.

1. Ensure the thermometer is in object/liquid measurement mode. If not, press the Mode button (M) until the baby bottle icon appears.
2. Point the sensor towards the object or liquid you wish to measure. Do not immerse the thermometer in liquid.
3. Press the Power button (⑂) to start the measurement.
4. The measurement will complete in a few seconds, and the temperature will be displayed.

5.5 Memory Function

The Sanitas SFT 79 stores the last 30 temperature readings. To access them:

1. With the device on, press the Memory button (S).
2. The display will show the most recent reading.
3. Press the Memory button (S) repeatedly to scroll through previous readings.

5.6 Switching Temperature Units (°C/°F)

To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F):

1. Ensure the device is off.
2. Press and hold the Power button (⑂) for approximately 3 seconds until the unit changes on the display.

5.7 Optical Fever Alarm

The thermometer features an optical fever alarm that uses an LED indicator light:

• Green LED: Indicates a normal temperature reading.
• Red LED: Indicates a fever (temperature above a predefined threshold, typically 37.5°C or 99.5°F).

6. Maintenance and Care

6.1 Cleaning

• Clean the measurement sensor after each use with an alcohol swab or a cotton swab moistened with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
• Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or immerse the device in water.
• Clean the main body of the thermometer with a soft, dry cloth.

6.2 Storage

• Store the thermometer in a clean, dry place at room temperature.
• Avoid direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
• If not in use for an extended period, remove the batteries.
