Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your M.2 SSD into the enclosure:

  1. Open the Enclosure: Using the provided screwdriver, carefully remove the screws securing the enclosure's cover. Slide open the enclosure.
  2. Insert the SSD: Gently insert your M.2 NVMe or SATA SSD into the M.2 slot on the circuit board. Ensure it is fully seated.
  3. Secure the SSD: Use the provided screw to secure the M.2 SSD in place at the end of the slot.
  4. Apply Thermal Pad and Heat Sink:
    • Peel off the protective film from both sides of the silicone thermal pad.
    • Place the thermal pad onto the top surface of the M.2 SSD.
    • Place the aluminum heat sink on top of the thermal pad, ensuring good contact with the SSD.
  5. Close the Enclosure: Slide the cover back onto the enclosure and secure it with the screws you removed earlier.

Note: The enclosure supports M.2 SSDs of standard sizes up to 2280, compatible with both NVMe (PCIe M-Key) and SATA protocols.

Operating Instructions

Connecting to a Computer

Use one of the provided USB cables to connect the ICY BOX enclosure to your computer:

  • USB Type-C to Type-C: For computers with a USB-C port.
  • USB Type-C to Type-A: For computers with a standard USB-A port.

Once connected, your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux) should automatically detect the enclosure and the installed SSD. The SSD will appear as an external drive.

Data Transfer

The enclosure utilizes USB 3.1 Gen 2 technology, supporting data transfer rates up to 10 Gbps. For optimal performance, connect the enclosure to a USB 3.1 Gen 2 compatible port on your computer.

Write Protection Switch

The ICY BOX IB-1817MC-C31 features an integrated write protection switch to safeguard your data from accidental deletion or modification. Locate the small switch on the side of the enclosure. Use the provided tool to toggle the switch:

  • Enabled: Data on the SSD cannot be written to or modified.
  • Disabled: Data can be written to and modified on the SSD.

Ensure the switch is in the desired position before performing any read/write operations.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the enclosure. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the enclosure in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the official ICY BOX website periodically for any available firmware updates for your model.
