Recommended Filter Settings:
To optimize mineral flow and ensure proper distribution, follow these filter-specific instructions:

Image: Instructions for optimizing mineral flow based on filter type: Sand, DE, and Cartridge filters.
Sand Filter:
- Backwash and rinse filter until it's clean.
- Switch the gear from "Filter" to "Bypass / Re-Circulate".
- Add the unit in the skimmer or pump basket.
- Let the pool run for a full cycle of 12 hours.
- Place the gear back to "Filter" after 12 hours of run cycle.
DE Filter:
- Clean filter completely.
- Add minimum required amount of DE. Do not overpack filter, so that minerals do not get caught in the filter.
- Place the unit in the skimmer.
- Run the pool for 6-12 hours or full run cycle.
Cartridge Filter:
- Remove the cartridge from the filter housing and clean it.
- Place the unit in the skimmer or pump basket.
- Run the pool for 6-12 hours or full run cycle.
- Place the cartridges back into the filter after 6-12 hours or full run cycle.
Operating Instructions
General Operation:
Once installed, the PoolRx minerals will completely dissolve into the water within 3-4 hours. The unit continues to rejuvenate the minerals as they pass back through it, ensuring continuous treatment. It is safe to swim as soon as the unit is placed in the water.
Compatibility with Various Pool Types:

Image: Information on how PoolRx+ enhances performance and reduces chemical needs in Salt, Ozone, UV, and AOP pool systems.
Salt Pools:
PoolRx provides an improved swimming experience and longer salt cell life by reducing the salt chlorine production required by your salt generator. This means your pool will require less acid to bring the chlorine to the correct pH ranges for optimal effectiveness. It also helps descale the salt cell and allows for lower chlorine levels (0.5 - 1.0 ppm).
UV / Ozone / AOP Pools:
PoolRx is a great addition to any ozone pool. The minerals form a stable residual throughout the entire body of water, consistently eliminating algae throughout the pool or spa, unlike ozone which has a limited range. Start with a new PoolRx+ unit at the beginning of each season for best results. Add Booster minerals after approximately 6 months of installing a new unit or as soon as it's needed, if algae comes back.
Maintenance
Post-Installation Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean filter at all times to capture dead algae.
- Maintain a chlorine level of 0.5 ppm to 1.0 ppm with PoolRx products.
- If the pool is green or cloudy, we recommend maintaining a chlorine level of 2.0 ppm until it clears.
- Do not shock unnecessarily, even if the chlorine level is low.
- Maintain the water pH between 7.2 to 7.8.
No need for other algaecides, specialty chemicals like phosphate removers or sequestration agents. Do not use with bromine or biguanides products.

Image: Guidelines for maintaining chlorine levels, pH levels, weekly maintenance, and managing CYA (Cyanuric Acid) with PoolRx+.
Weekly Maintenance:
- Maintain "normal pool chemistry ranges".
- Maintain "normal pump/filter run times" during the heat of the day, turning over the entire body of water at least 1.5 times per 24 hours.
Chemical Levels:
- Chlorine Levels: If the water is clear, maintain 0.5 - 1.0 ppm of free chlorine. If cloudy or algae is present, maintain approximately 2.0 ppm until clear. Higher levels are acceptable but not always necessary.
- pH Levels: Maintain between 7.2 and 7.8. This range is crucial for chlorine effectiveness.
- High CYA (Cyanuric Acid): Ideal range is 40-80 ppm. If CYA is above 100 ppm, dilute liquid chlorine or cal hypo in a bucket of water before adding to the pool due to high pH.
- CYA not increasing as quickly: PoolRx+ eliminates algae, removing the need for phosphate removers, which can affect CYA levels.
Unit Replacement and Booster:
We recommend adding booster minerals when needed, typically 4-6 months after initial installation. The PoolRx unit itself should be replaced approximately every 12 months. The longevity of the minerals is determined by algae kill, backwash frequency, and splash out.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues and Solutions:
- Green to Clear: PoolRx minerals typically turn a green pool into a clear pool within 24-72 hours if directions are followed correctly. If starting with a dirty spa or pool, backwash or clean the filter every few days.
- Copper Levels with PoolRx: It is normal for copper levels to rise with PoolRx products. PoolRx minerals utilize a proprietary chelation process that bonds to metals at a molecular level. This process makes PoolRx products more effective against algae while reducing the need for high chlorine levels (0.5 to 1.0 ppm chlorine when the water is clear). Some testing methods may recommend a stain control product or draining the pool; however, these methods do not consider the chelation process that bonds the PoolRx minerals to the metals. Adding stain control products is not necessary for PoolRx products.
- Difference between PoolRx and PoolRx+ products: Both formulas work great and are very similar. The PoolRx+ products have "silver" as an additional active ingredient to eliminate algae and bacteria when used with 0.5 to 1.0 ppm chlorine.
- Concern about higher copper levels: Before installing PoolRx products, test for copper level. If the level is at 0.2 ppm or less, it's okay to install PoolRx. If the level is higher than 0.2 ppm, treat this elevated level first, retest, and then install when copper is at or below 0.2 ppm. After installing PoolRx, there is no reason to be alarmed about the copper level. This is perfectly normal with PoolRx products due to a proprietary chelation process of the metal ingredients, which prevents them from staining.
- Adding other algaecides or specialty chemicals: We do not recommend using any other algaecide, phosphate removers, or clarifiers with PoolRx products. If PoolRx products are used in correct dosage, and with a functioning pool and correct chemistry, there is no need for any additional chemicals except low levels of chlorine and pH adjustments.
- What happens to the PoolRx minerals in the water?: PoolRx minerals are consumed during the process of algae kill and filtered out. They also leave the body of water through backwashing, splash-out, and filter cleaning. Minerals that are still circulating in the water are recharged by the specially-treated alloy cylinder inside the PoolRx unit. This ion exchange prolongs the effectiveness of the circulating PoolRx minerals for up to 6 months.
