1. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating welding equipment. Failure to follow safety guidelines can result in serious injury or death.

General Safety Precautions:

  • Electric Shock: Welding current can cause fatal electric shock. Ensure proper grounding and insulation. Never touch live electrical parts. Wear dry welding gloves and protective clothing.
  • Fumes and Gases: Welding produces fumes and gases that can be hazardous to health. Work in a well-ventilated area. Use local exhaust ventilation or a respirator if necessary.
  • Arc Rays: Arc rays can injure eyes and burn skin. Wear a welding helmet with appropriate shade filter, safety glasses, and protective clothing. Protect bystanders with welding screens.
  • Fire and Explosion: Welding sparks and hot metal can cause fires. Keep flammable materials away from the welding area. Have a fire extinguisher readily available.
  • Burns: Hot metal and sparks can cause severe burns. Wear flame-resistant protective clothing, gloves, and footwear.
  • Pacemakers: Magnetic fields from high currents can affect pacemakers. Consult your doctor before welding.

3. Setup

3.1 Power Connection

  1. Ensure the welder is switched off before connecting to power.
  2. Connect the power plug to either a 110V or 220V power source. The machine will automatically detect the voltage.
  3. For 220V operation, use the provided adapter cord if necessary.
  4. Verify that the power source can provide sufficient current for welding operations.

3.2 Electrode and Ground Clamp Connection

  1. Connect the electrode holder cable to the negative terminal (-) of the welder.
  2. Connect the work clamp (ground clamp) cable to the positive terminal (+) of the welder.
  3. Securely attach the work clamp to the workpiece or a sturdy metal workbench that is in direct electrical contact with the workpiece. Ensure a clean, bare metal connection for optimal conductivity.
  4. Insert the welding electrode into the electrode holder.

3.3 Preparation

  1. Clear the welding area of any flammable materials.
  2. Ensure adequate ventilation.
  3. Wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including a welding helmet, gloves, and protective clothing.

4. Operation

4.1 Control Panel Overview

The control panel allows for mode selection and current adjustment. Refer to the diagram below for component identification:

Image: Close-up of the welder's control panel, showing the digital display, adjustment knob, and indicator lights for various functions and electrode sizes.

  • LED Current Display: Shows the set welding current.
  • Welding Current Adjustment Knob: Used to set the desired welding current (20A-160A).
  • Mode Selection Button: Toggles between MMA and Lift TIG welding modes.
  • Function Key (Menu): For advanced settings if applicable.
  • Indicator Lights: Display active mode (MMA/Lift TIG), electrode size (2.5mm, 3.2mm, 4.0mm), and other functions like Arc Force and VRD.

4.2 MMA (Stick) Welding

MMA welding is suitable for 2.5mm-4.0mm welding rods and various metals including iron, mild steel, carbon steel, and other non-ferrous metals (not aluminum).

  1. Select MMA mode using the Mode Selection Button.
  2. Adjust the welding current using the knob according to the electrode type and material thickness.
  3. Strike the arc by lightly touching the electrode to the workpiece and quickly lifting it slightly to establish a stable arc. The Hot Start feature assists in this process.
  4. Maintain a consistent arc length and travel speed for a quality weld.

4.3 Lift TIG Welding

Lift TIG welding offers greater control for stronger, higher-quality welds, especially on thinner materials. Note: Accessories for TIG welding are not included with this unit and must be purchased separately.

  1. Select Lift TIG mode using the Mode Selection Button.
  2. Ensure you have the appropriate TIG torch, tungsten electrode, and shielding gas setup.
  3. Adjust the welding current as required for the material and tungsten size.
  4. Initiate the arc by gently touching the tungsten electrode to the workpiece and then lifting it slightly. The machine will sense the contact and initiate the arc without high-frequency start.
  5. Maintain a short arc length and feed filler rod manually if needed.

4.4 Welding Applications

Examples of welding applications including soldering iron, welding angle iron, welding gas tank, and welded reinforcement.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your welding machine.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the welder with a dry cloth. Use compressed air to blow out dust from the cooling vents. Ensure the machine is unplugged before cleaning.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect all cables (power, electrode, ground) for cuts, fraying, or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
  • Terminal Check: Ensure all cable connections to the welder terminals are tight and free from corrosion.
  • Storage: Store the welder in a dry, clean environment, away from excessive dust and moisture.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter during operation.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Welder does not power on.No power supply; Faulty power cord; Internal fault.Check power outlet and circuit breaker. Inspect power cord for damage. If problem persists, contact support.
No arc or weak arc.Poor ground connection; Incorrect current setting; Wet or old electrodes; Faulty electrode holder.Ensure ground clamp is on clean metal. Adjust current. Use dry, fresh electrodes. Check electrode holder connection.
Electrode sticks frequently.Low current setting; Incorrect electrode angle; Insufficient arc force.Increase welding current. Adjust electrode angle. The Hot Start feature helps prevent sticking.
